Re: CDI FF2 Headstay ripped
Hi Finally Sailing, I have just come across your post and have an interest in Forestay failure. I have had two fail! Mine is a 2007 26M. Both Forestays were original MacGregor fitted with a FF2 furler. Both failed above the swage at the thimble. My thimble is attached to the mast hound with a shackl...

Hi pcmb, I've recently bought one of these to replace the stock McGregor outboard linkage and am in the middle of fitting. You can raise and lower the engine from both fixing points. Both ends have a 'ball and socket' arrangement with a spung loaded sleeve on the socket which captivates the ball. In...

Beene I enquired on the Doyle Stand at the Strictly Sail Show in Chicago in January. Their StackPack 2 System looks impressive and can be fitted retrospectively to your sail. You need to send your main in to them. Turn around time quoted I think from memory was 4 weeks. Price quoted for the 26M was ...

If you can find them, old locomotive wheels make good mooring weights on a sandy sea bed. For our 26M swinging mooring in 4m of water we use a locomotive wheel (480Kg), connected to 6m of 75mm Ground Chain, connected to 12m of 16mm Rising Chain, connected to a 25mm swivel. Off the swivel is a A4 siz...

Kadet, Congratulations on your purchase. I did the same last year and imported a new 26M from the factory into Ireland. With regard to travelling 120 km to pick up the boat, if you have have arranged some one to unload the boat and commision the trailer then no problem. If you intend to do it yourse...

Hi Bastonjock, I use a swinging mooring with two 18mm dia. mooring warps. One mod I made to the boat (26M) was to fit larger cleats (to accept the 18mm) to the bow and also to assist these and help avoid chafing I also fitted fairleads to the bow. I also had plastic sleeve fiited over the warps but ...

Any Opinion on BWY etal Spreader Tip
I am considering the above and would welcome any feedback on these. My 2007 26m is fitted with stock (aluminium body with plastic end pieces) spreader tips. on the stock item the 2 set screws are quite small and I would not wish to over tighten these. On two occasions within two months I have had th...

Hi Bastonjock, Paul Sharpe concurred, the factory would seem to have a limit on the number of units they are able to manufacture. From memory I think he said 2 units per day and the restriction relates to environmental manufacturing limitations (assumingly State imposed). I believe this is what caus...

We went to the London Boay Show yesterday. Found it to be a good day out. The show was not as crowded as we had expected, however you would need two days to have a good look around the whole show. Prices in the chandelery shops I felt were not particularly highly discounted. (I purchased a pair of D...
