Re: Adding brakes to a brake-less trailer

Never use drum brakes in fresh or salt water, use disk brakes and for salt water use stainless steel disk. Always wash them with fresh water after haulout. Dave Thanks, guys! Are there any advantages to disk brakes over drum brakes? I already have a set of drum brakes, but wouldn't mind changing eve...

Re: looking for a dinghy --ideas

Fact is , you can tow a Kayak or inflatable if you keep the tow line close to stearn. Even in 15-20 Knots. This all depends on wave and winds. I have used both my Kodiak 8ft and 9.6 ft Solicit dings inflatables towing bow up close to motor. Speeds of up to 18mph, no problem and higher speeds . Use b...

My centerboard 1997x had cracks on the head and lower end. I fiber glassed it and gelcoat . I have lot of experience in repairing fiberglass. If you don't I would get a replacement tru BYW. These centerboards and rudders thru these early years are known for weak fiberglass connections and will crack...

Re: Best battery monitors? And low voltage cutoff?

Jeff, used many types batteries on my boats. Those included are Gel, deep cycle , AGMS and twin 6volt Golf cart Trojans. The best for the price and long life and neglect goes to Twin 6 volt Trojan Golf Cart batteries. Nothing else is even close for power and extended life for cost. Current have twin...

Re: mac 26X

The stock BWY anchor roller is not for permanent mount on MacX 26 , You can't carry your anchor on the roller underway and use it as a anchor platform on the hook. This one you can. http://macgregorsailors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23641&p=308286#p308286 Dave Thanks for that, John. Some ...

Re: Masts Swing control during raising and lowering

If you have the 150 Genoa go for it but if you want to crank in that 150 to inside track it's a no. As stated best to use bungee cord to tuck in baby stays while beating to windward using inside track. Remember, best pointing is always with the 105 jib on inside track over 6knots to windward. (that'...

Re: Masts Swing control during raising and lowering

Neo, I have used 1/8 inch braded line for Baby Stays past 8yrs. Works great! You never want to use bungee cords for any type stays. I can see you putting bungee cords inward to mast to reduce 105 jib sheet line fray. Beating to windward , just better to leave baby stays alone. just another step to r...

Re: Battery charging.

You have electric start that requires a 12 volt battery, just hookup a lead from battery to your low power dc units. Add additional battery if your elect. demands require. You also can add a Cig. lighter off your battery, plug in a 50watt AC/DC converter to plug in your AC appliance. This is just lo...
