Re: gooseneck failure (boom to mast connection)
Hi guys. I made a few assemblies that replaced this connection with one made of stainless and UHMW poly which was less sloppy and more robust than the stock one and also allowed the boom to rotate to give the option of rolling the main around the boom. I believe I have in storage (if I can find) the...

Re: How do you store your enclosure panels?
Our Dowsar full enclosure came with sheets of what I would describe as a type of spun fibre landscape cloth rolled between each piece. We rolled this up with each panel when we stored them, which I think is a good idea for the window plastic as I have seen in the past that the plastic can adhere/ st...

Re: Crack in mast raising pole
Good solutions above. From the picture it looks like the crack doesn't pass through the bolt hole in the aluminum (but beside it) and that the crack might have resulted from an over-tightening of the bolts. Is the aluminum oval at that end, as opposed to round? So to add one more option to your mult...

Re: water ingres by the steering when heeling
If the stern sits low enough for long enough in the water while under extreme heel it is possible for water to enter through the space between the rudder shaft and the hole drilled in the hull to accommodate it (through the "rudder box"). This might well be what your passenger was witnessi...

Re: Prepping engine for launch
Yeah, because of the angle and height it's far less visible in a Mac. In the olden days before the side-firing "P" stream was common on outboards it was part of the water pump check procedure on start up to swing the wheel hard over one way to more easily see sputtering water exiting the a...

Re: Prepping engine for launch
Yep, the reasons mentioned above, condensation of combustion-produced water when it hits the cold air, just like your car in winter (it is worse until combustion becomes more complete as the engine warms.) To cool the exhaust gasses and exhaust metal components, and to attenuate noise, water is mixe...

Re: Vic's autopilot
The M already sails pretty well and has no vices on any point of sail in conditions for which the boat is intended. I'm surprised no one has figured out a sail based self steering system. I never had much luck with them on my heavy keel boats which had difficulties on certain points of sail. Or hor...

Re: Self-bailing cockpit
Not familiar with your exact boat/ trailer, but if its on the trailer then tilt the bow as high as possible to keep the cockpit puddle small or non-existent. If possible some (smaller) boats can be tipped until the trailer at the transom contacts the ground. Further tilting will take some of the wei...

Re: Winterizing for leaving in Chesapeak slip?
Ended up tilting the boat up as High as I could on the bow to get all the water to the stern and then used a 1/4 plastic airline with brass fitting on one end to get it to sink to the bottom of the water. Slid it in through ballast drain and then siphoned the rest of the water out. Took 1/2 hr or m...

Re: fogging Honda 50 and winterizing Mac X
If you run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel (after disconnecting the fuel hose) – have you found that you still need to drain the carb bowls? At least one of them should be empty, and the remaining ones nearly so, and if you’ve added a Sta-bil type product ahead of time, you should be go...

Yeah. "I" am the difference between cursing and cruising.
