Re: Steering wander

How did you find the boat handle with hydraulic steering when sailing? Were you able to feel the steering at all? Ok, yes folks before you jump on me, it is difficult to feel the steering of the MacGregor under sail but it is possible. It just takes some practice. If possible handle a tiller steered...

Re: Suzuki 100BTL

That motor is too big for the 26M Is this an older motor? The sweet motor for the 26M is the DF60AVTL2 because of its light weight 253 lbs and size it fits the engine well nicely and still gives you room to get around it. The high thrust model produces plenty of torque and moves the M nicely, good o...

Re: Is There No Hope For The Widows Son?

We reached out to Heath but did not get a response. We at Blue Water Yachts are interested in continuing the site. It is a valuable asset to the MacGregor community and we would hate to see it go completely. If someone could call us and talk about the next step and what is involved in maintaining a ...

Re: New Radar Arch

There are two, one is the Canadian wind sock and the other is a flag! Kidding, but they can give you wind direction. I see a wind speed indicator but no electronic wind direction indicators.

Re: Novice Mac 26M Owner/Furler Pin Movement

That is a good question! The answer is maybe the bow rail could be ripped right out of the deck or damaged. But, If there is not a jarring sudden pull on the rail then the rail may be fine. We have never attached the spinnaker to the bow rail for just that reason, the spinnaker with its power and ja...

Re: Additional 25 kg Lead in Daggerboard

La Perla Noir would sail upwind to about 30 degrees and in 15 knots of wind, or so, would go about 6 knots. Off the wind would go faster, of course. Its that true upwind performance that speed is difficult to get. And, while we had a GPS on the pedestal I was not looking at the speed when sailing.

Re: Additional 25 kg Lead in Daggerboard

In the years following the building of the 2005 La Perla Noir, which we called a prototype boat, we found the following results of the heavily weighted keel. Remember that this was a custom built boat, daggerboard trunk heavily reinforced, permanent ballast reinforced, and board reinforced to be abl...

Re: Novice Mac 26M Owner/Furler Pin Movement

With regards to the pin that attaches the roller furling to the chainplate at the bow, this pin should be in tight and there should be a fair amount of pressure on it. Check to see if your upper shrouds are tight. If not then you need to get them tighter. When you pin the headstay it should be very ...

Re: Making a new rudder.

The 26X has a swing centerboard. $599 with the standard rolled on Epoxy barrier coat finish, ready to put on bottom paint or use as is. For an additional $200 you can get it in the white polished gel coat. Boats older than the 26 Classic 1987 and older would have a Keel. The keel is made of lead, so...

Re: Ruddercraft rudders for the 26X

The 26X have a couple choices for rudders. The HDPE Rudders (from BWY or Ruddercraft) (same price) are a dense plastic material. They are very nice but do add some weight when raising and lowering. This can be overcome by simply moving the hole in the rudder back some to allow for a better angle to ...

Re: Issues with Dowsar Marine Supplies

I am sorry to hear that you had trouble with Dowsar. We have always heard good things of them and have no reason to think they are not helpful. But, sometimes things are busy I guess...I don't know. The stern rail seats we sell are only made for the 26M, which made me think maybe you had a set that ...

Marine Part Depot

Once again we are having trouble with Marine Part Depot! They do not respond to emails, or calls! Our order was placed months ago, and they happily took our money without shipping or any kind of notice. I understand the difficulties in the marine business, but at least answer the phone or send an em...

Sailing Without Water Ballast

NO NEVER EVER, SAIL WITHOUT WATER BALLAST! I just received a call from a fellow who, after reading online had found someone talking about sailing without the water ballast, and wanted to ask me about this subject. If anyone out there thinks this could ever be recommended to do they are just WRONG, A...
