Re: to paint or wax topside...when is it "OK" to start thinking paint
OK, I am six months away from painting my topside, which I define as a "gunwale to gunwale" job including hatches, cockpit and stern. I am collecting info and tips. I ran across this on an boats.com website: "With on deck-painting projects the most important step will be to carefully ...

Re: to paint or wax topside...when is it "OK" to start thinking paint
Dimitri asked: This seems like a nice old thread to 'bump'.. @Hershel, did you ever paint your boat? No, but this fall is "fish or cut bait" time for me on this issue. Beginning to wrap my head around it and set aside time in the fall for same. I have often thought I would use the forward ...

Re: Mold?
I've not found that products like "damp rid" are not effective where I live. The last time I tried it I just ended up with lots of little buckets of slimy liquid in a very short time. We don't have as much humidity as Florida, but I have the same problem here in the Pacific Northwest. I b...

Re: Mold?
From the EPA: Cleanup and Biocides Biocides are substances that can destroy living organisms. The use of a chemical or biocide that kills organisms such as mold (chlorine bleach, for example) is not recommended as a routine practice during mold cleanup. There may be instances, however, when profess...

Yes, I use bathroom or kitchen cleaners containing bleach and that usually does the trick.

Re: Boat back in slip, but took too long!
stickinthemud57 asked This experience underscores the need for me to generate an actual checklist since apparently I don't do this often enough. Any hints from those who put in and take out frequently would also be helpful. Thanks in advance! I keep my boat in the water full time, but on those occas...

stickinthe mud57 remarked: Well, since kmclemore has effectively hijacked the thread (nice work, by the way), I'm sure Herschel will not mind if I pile on with this - Functional and practical wine glass and drink holders No, I don't mind at all. I've done my share bending posts in different directio...

Re: Opinions on Tohatsu Motors
I really can't help with your question directly as I have a Yamaha. In my "neck of the woods" I typically see Yamaha and Mercury mostly. I speculate that what we see most in our area may relate for which brands we can most easily obtain technical support as well. Just a thought.

Re: Garage
This is totally "mission creep", but should you ever get the RV bug and want to park your travel trailer or Class A or C motorhome in that garage, you would like at least 13 ft height clearance, possibly more. I don't go under any overpasses or tree limbs with my travel trailer that are le...

Re: Old geezer stanchion mod
Thanks, guys. Give Stickinthemud57/Bill all the credit. Great engineering on his part. I plan to experiment with a traffic pattern going up to and down from the cabin top. UP ONLY (one way) on the starboard side where the step is up, and I can grab the normal stanchion and usually the dodger support...

Re: Old geezer stanchion mod
Got stickinthemud57's (aka Bill's) 3-D printed brackets for my stanchion mod. Installed them today. Wow! Talk about a more elegant solution! :) Take a look at this: https://i.postimg.cc/CzRdr667/20240215-134038.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Th7p9XQh/20240215-134051.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/xqTXMdvW/20240...

Re: BWY Steering Quick Disconnect
I do not have a quick disconnect so not much help there. Still have the '98X OEM rudders and aluminum brackets. No problems or advice to give regarding steering. But my condolences on the loss of your son. We lost our 54 y/o son to colon cancer last summer. Feel free to share on PM if you like. Hope...

Includes digital voltmeter and ammeter. Calculates state of charge by adding or subtracting amp-hours via measu...
