Re: Bending the mast

Is your backstay adjustable? most Macs aren't. Do you have a boom vang or Cunningham? Also, is your luff tensioned enough?

Re: Gap in main hatch

I fold up afew paper rags into about a 6" square, pull the hatch rearward past the companionway hatch, place a square in each corner, then slide hatch back to where it belongs to lock up boat. If it rains, they get wet, but stay in place and make a nice seal. Keeps the bees and other bugs from getti...

This is what I have used many times.

Then use butyl tape as the seal between the port frame and the boat.

Re: 1985 Mac 25 hull thickness

Mac hulls are definitely not cored. The hull under the V-berth does get thicker the closer you get to the bottom of the "V". I have my depth transducer mounted about a foot up the starboard side from the bottom of the "V", directly under the access hatch in the rear of the V-berth.

Re: Here We Go Again - February Florida Keys or Bust 2018!

Greetings Greg, sorry to hear of all your troubles. Glad you made it to the Keys in one piece (well, you at least). just remember that a day in the Keys beats a day anywhere else! I'm planning another Keys excursion for spring of 2019 (trying to go every 3 years), and after dealing with the winds, i...

Re: PHRF Racing a Mac25 - Summer 2017 After Action Report

Congrats on your racing success. I too have raced my 25 with good results. I re-rigged mine boat so I could use J24 headsails, which you can pick up used for cheap. For your weatherhelm issue, how much mast rake do you have? The factory instructions has you setting the mast with excessive rake to ma...

Re: Cheap slips in upper keys with electric

South Dade Marina. It's small and very basic......but is very inexpensive. Has a boat ramp and parking for your tow @ $10 a day. Easy access to Manatee Bay then the ICW to points north or south. Its a great central location to do day or overnight trips from. Call and talk to Bob, he is friendly and ...

Re: Rigging the anchor - when? (No anchor locker)

My chain and nylon rode are always stored in the bow locker (space between inside liner and hull) even when on the trailer. Immediately after launching, the anchor is attached to the chain with a shackle and seized (with a plastic tie wrap). I do this after launching so the anchor doesn't get caught...

Re: Measuring rigging

Have you measured the positions of anything else, port and starboard? Nothing measures the same on my V25. And for that matter, no 2 boats are likely the same. I think they were all built "by eye". Not that this is a bad thing, one just can't assume that both sides are the same.

My anchor is always locked and loaded for immediate deployment........you never know when a situation will arise and you need to stay fast where you are.

Race write up for those interested. Friday evening, August 5th, nineteen boats met just north of the tip of Turkey Point for the 8th Annual Sippy Cup. In the Sippy Cup fleet, for smaller and slower boats, eleven competitors were entered. For the faster boats, eight contenders made up the Big Gulp fl...
