Re: How to take leaked water out of bilge
I agree that a sponge is the only way. The problem with it, and the factor that primarily limits the lifespan of the sponge is the accumulation of fiberglass particles. It is amazing that something (fiberglass) that is barely visable can cause so much pain. I don't know if it would help to wear some...

Re: Plumbing of the cockpit drain (26s)
Interesting! Apparently mine was stock. I was pretty sure that the "white" PVC non-barbed reducing tee (in the mid part of the 1 1/2" hose) wasn't stock. I would have been wrong. Oh well! Nice pictures. I appreciate the information.

Re: Depth Sounder
Good point. In practice I will probably try the silicone or latex first. The concept would apply to however one might install the thing.

Re: Time to name my boat
Hey Dan, one more suggestion. "Crotalus" That is the genus of the pit viper you commonly call rattlesnake, and, of which you folks in Texas have plenty of. (I always liked the word, and of course no one who is not a naturalist or zoologist will know what it means -- so they will have to as...

26S things/FYI
I noticed that there weren't many mods for the 26s so I posted several. Plan on posting some more. If there are any questions or comments feel free to e-mail (be sure to put something in the subject line like "26 mod") or PM. Don't hesitate to post comments here either!!

Plumbing of the cockpit drain (26s)
When I got the 26s the drain in the rear of the cockpit and the the drain down out of the motor well (down in the lazarette) had been plumbed in a rather amateurish sort of way with a hodge podge of parts. It worked--but just barely. I have since re-plumbed it. The repair seems solid but is just my ...

Re: New to me boat
I'm running a little behind. Just read your post from 11/17. That is one of my pet peaves (using overly cheap parts). I mean there is inexpensive (or reasonably priced) and there is "cheap". I understand building a boat that we can all afford. I don't have a trust fund myself! Some of the ...

Re: Keel Lock-down Bolt Hole Repair
Looks good. Also, if everything works well during the 2010 sailing season you can always fill in that whole area with fiberglass next fall when you want something to do.

Re: Depth Sounder
I was reading the on line owners manual for the Norcross Hawkeye (I ordered one BTW). Norcross sounds like an excellent company to do business with. They put all the owners manuals on line. They give detailed instructions of how to EXCHANGE transducers if the one you get is not the right one. What c...

Re: Depth Sounder
Yes of course. At 6 miles per hour putting the transducer forward 15' gives an "advance warning" of 1.7 seconds and at 15 miles per hour .68 seconds. Still if I'm not sure of the depth I would want to go in (slowly) with the bow and not with the stern. At cruising speeds it probably doesn'...

Post some pictures. Just load them to photobucket and then download to the post. Be sure to take some pics of the work in progress. Mike
