Re: Lifelines - worse than useless?
I seem to remember in the owner's manual that you aren't supposed to go forward on the cabin top when underway, at least not while under power. Obviously may need to adjust sails if under sail. I'm guessing the short stanchions had something to do with that being included in the manual.

Re: Still have your factory trailer? Take a good look at it!
I actually asked my Mac dealer about that when I bought my 26M new, it has the aluminum trailer. They weren't allowed to make the tongue aluminum due to an outdated law still on the books in the United States requiring all trailer tongues to be steel. I suspect that was to avoid things like people b...

Thanks,
Have you looked at the weight difference between the 90 and 115?

Re: How do you attach things in the cabin?
My method was to go to the local big box department store and find the aisle with shower accessories. They have little adhesive hooks, organizers, and other similar things that are for use in showers. They stick and work in wet environments, and best of all, no drilling required. Some I use have suc...

Re: Roller Furling
I have the Harken 00 as well (similar to the Harken 0). Much easier to operate than the factory furler that came with my boat. My factory furler wasn't the CDI, I have no idea who MacGregor was getting his furlers from in 2010. I'd sailed other boats in the past with hank-on. I'd put a furler on any...

Re: east coast cruising
You would be taking the intra-coastal waterway (ICW) up to the Hudson, and the NY canals. Imminently navigable and part of the "Great Loop", although people typically go the other direction. People I talk to have gone North on the ICW and South on the rivers through the center of the US i...

Has anyone installed a flushing electric pump-out head on a Mac? I know the composting heads seem to be the most useful long-term head for our boat, but I'm just wondering what size tank would be reasonable. I’ve been throwing this around as well. I’ve thought of installing a manual head with a 5-1...

Re: Propane Tank Aboard? Be careful...
On "another forum which shall remain nameless" some boaters point out that RVs have "internal" propane tanks routinely. This actually not the case. While the tank may seem like it's inside, its open to below the RV, and if it leaks the propane spills away onto the ground. In a w...

Re: Installing a bilge pump
Having the thru-hull clogged and back up into the sink is a scenario I hadn't thought of, which is exactly why I had posed the question. As for using the sink drain for discharge when not clogged, I would've thought it would be little different than pouring the water into the sink, and I've never s...

I dunno, it's all speculation - i am just going by what i am always hearing from all the other sailors - you guys know who I'm talking about - all those anarchy guys out there that say the MAC is crap and looks like crap and so forth. I'm always running into those guys and they all feel that REAL s...

I've managed to escape any build quality issues for my hull thus far on my

I second RobertB's question regarding the ballast system. Is there some sort of backup system or fail-safe?BOAT wrote:Mike Inmon said the transfer of water from one side to the other was not in minutes, he said it was in "seconds".

Re: Macgregor 65/70 Discussion
I generally like the MAC65/70. But one thing makes me uneasy about the design. I understand it has a diesel engine running a high flow pump to switch the water ballast from side to side depending on the tack (at least the 70). What happens if this engine/pump and/or associated valving fails and the...

Re: Considering a new boat
Oh, most of us have some issue with build quality. I bought my boat from MacGreogor factory sales. Figured out that my mast is not located accurately on the deck (off center) and as a result has broken part of the deck away around the daggerboard where the mast step rests (forward edge) http://i125...

Re: Installing a bilge pump
Personally, I would not rely on a hose into the sink. The sink drain is so small a large bug can cause a clog. Very good point. Anyone have thoughts for or against sharing the discharge thru-hull with two bilge pumps (primary and secondary)? I'm trying to decide best plans for drilling as few holes...
