Re: Reversing in the marina

I have a Mac 25 and have always reversed using both the outboard and rudder. It makes the backing up process very precise. In all honesty, I wouldn't know how else to reverse as precisely without using this method.

Re: Naming the boat

I think my letters are 10" high as well. Of course, my boat's name is "Ilya," so that doesn't look too intimidating in any case. And it's absolutely true that the letters look a lot bigger close up than you'd think.

I'm pretty sure that 6" letters will be too small.

Re: Docking

When I dock, I generally back in. I find it much easier. I stand forward of the pedestal, facing the stern, and then take hold of the wheel. This way, there is no confusion of left and right. I just drive the boat in. When it comes to wind, while docking, I don't care how many classes one can take,...

Re: Sailing lessons

Bob, Where about's in Ca are you? Am considering something similar and would like to hear how you felt about the training. I am in southern Ca. We sail out of San Diego mostly. We found our deal through Groupon, $132 per person which included certification, regularly $350. Could not find a better d...

Thread to repair anti-UV fabric on Genoa

Just thought I'd ask this: I've noticed that the anti-UV strip on our Genoa needs to be repaired -- specifically it just needs to be re-sewn in places. Do I need to use anti-UV thread for this, or would that be unnecessary?

Thanks!

Re: What gives!?! Sailing 911!

Better to go out with to little sail than too much, far easier to shake out a reef if you need to than put one in when its blowing too hard. As the old sailing adage goes, if you think you may need to reef then its probably too late. I tend to go out with a reef in the main and shake it out rather ...

Re: Optimum wind speed for an X?

I like to sail in 10-15 mph. For me it doesn't feel like I'm sailing until I'm at 4 knots, but I like 5 knots and that's what I aim for. Several times I achieved 6 knots comfortably. I hit 7 knots and thought imminent death was soon to follow. So I shy away from that if at all possible. Yeah, I thou...

I have been waiting to post a photograph until I have actually washed and waxed my white :macm: . There are many varied products, with different levels of work involved. I like good results with less effort :D Here is a picture of Nice Aft after washing and using good old Turtle Wax (squeeze bottle...

Re: lesson learned.

Thanks for your story. Happy that everything worked out okay. I remember the first outing with our Mac 25 with guests on the boat: two of my son's best friends, my son, my wife and me. It was already a trying day trying to control tacks, etc., especially since I was such a newbie. While this was goi...

Re: Docking with pier on starboard

Yeah,

It's definitely easier if you can shift the outboard rather than just the rudders to gain greater control, it that's an option. It works well with our 25.
