Re: Keel-up refit 1977 Venture

Hi new V-25 owner. Freedom is late '76 V-25. Hull # 928. Best way to remove keel is to hoist boat off trailer if possible. Roll trailer out and drop keel onto a moveable flat bed with casters. I jacked up stern on oil drum with 2x4 cross beams covered with carpet. Used bottle jacks to raise hull and...

Re: Life at my boat ramp

Over 50 years on the water I believe some of the most unusual and tragic events, can be found on any given weekend at the launch ramp. It tests patience, marriage and common sense. Once at Marina del Rey I witnessed what I consider the all time event. Wish I had a video camera. It was dusk. Man pull...

Re: M25, Rebuilding the compression post base

Do you have pics? Mast post base can start to "pump". Makes mast flex and could result in dismasting from spreader failure. Also, deck is pretty thin at top of mast post. I reinforced under deck with a piece of 1/4" stainless.

Re: can I use a 9.9 2 stroke motor on my V21

9.9 seems a little overkill. We had V-21 with a Merc 4 hp which was plenty and would push the boat at hull speed. Even used it on our V-222. 7.5 would be more than enough. Have Honda 7.5 on Freedom V-25. 4 cycle if you don't have to mix gas and oil in the tank. As I always preach, three things to re...

Re: Who makes a good spinnaker

Do you want symmetrical or asymmetrical, (sometimes referred to as a "genacker"). If you have a large body of water near you, there is probably a sailmaker near.Never bought from Judy B, but as mentioned, a lot of happy folks and you have a go to live person. At one time Hyde was supplier for Ventur...

Re: speeds

Hi 1st Sail: YEP!! Had 1972 V-222. Planing downwind with spinnaker, following sea and mucho wind. 22 is short and beamy. Friend in other boat took a movie. Long gone. In those conditions you can round up or knock down in a heartbeat. :)

Re: Mac25 Upwind

The roller reefing on Macs is useless. By the time you need to reef it's usually pretty dicey. Find a sailmaker and have a double set of reef point put in. You will be glad you did. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt :D

Re: washing my sails

Never use harsh chemicals. Do you have, or know anyone, who has a swimming pool. Throw the sails in the pool and let them soak for a while. If you have a few kids have them get in and push them around. Take them out. rinse off, and run them up the mast. Don't attach to the boom. just tie off and let...

Re: Mac25 Upwind

Sailboatmike is correct. The Mac 25 is a little more tender than the V25. Both have large mains. Freedom is masthead rigged which allows for bigger headsails. I sail on Lake Mead Nevada which has some nasty winds. I've been sailing for almost 50 years. My advice, for what it's worth, is when closed ...

Re: speeds

Agree with Paul I and Sailboat Mike. Hull speed is theoretical, like wind tunnel test under ideal conditions. Lots of factors involved. Best we ever did was sailing downwind to Ensenada Mexico with following sea and spinnaker. Hit 8+ knots. WOOO... Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

Re: Hello fellow Venture sailors!

My late beloved first mate bought a plaque which she installed in the cabin. "LIKE A WOMAN, THE RIGGING COSTS MORE THAN THE HULL!" Check with blue water yachts in Seattle. They are the local Venture/Mac source in the northwest. Our 222 had a forward hatch. Worked out nicely for stowing foresails You...

Re: 1983 Macgregor 25 Rigging Questions

Rigging questions aside, As far as sailing from SF to anywhere exotic. NO and H>>> NO!!! I have been sailing Venture/Macs for almost 50 years. They are a well made sturdy boat. I have sailed many miles, longest being from Newport Ca. to Ensenada Mexico, approx. 120 miles. That being said think about...
