Re: Mast fittings
The fitting is for transporting the mast while trailering. The setup was a bracket on the foredeck that the tube part fit into. If you don't have the bracket there are probably some holes where it used to be. Check it out and let us know. The "U" shaped piece with the elongated holes is the mast ste...

Re: And so it begins!
WELCOME ABOARD TO THE LEGION OF THE DAMNED!! Seriously, congrats. I've been sailing for 50 years. Freedom turned 44 this year on January 1st. She's still in pretty good shape. Pity slip locked sailors. We have taken Freedom as far south as Ensenada, Mexico and as far North as British Columbia...

Re: New to Forum, new to Mac 25 doing restoration
Looking at your pics. If it's an 84/85 it's a MAC. If original sails there should be an M on the sail and the sail # is the hull #. Don't know how long it sat before you adopted but looks to be in pretty good shape. Upholstery fabric is Sorenson brown, which was the stock fabric. Freedom was in Sore...

Re: Best sailing speed
Comparing apple to oranges, (or some kind of fruit?) Freedom is 1976 V-25 masthead rig. 525 sq. ft. chute. Sailing downwind from Newport to Ensenada, with spinnaker up, approx. 20 kt wind, following sea. Pegged knot meter at 10 kt. surfing, planing, down front of swell for six hours. Took 4th in cla...

Re: Uh oh what did I do
Sound like a good deal. Depending on: Year built, overall condition, equipment, (sails, hardware, interior shape, cushions, etc.) What part of country. There is a glut of sailboats on the market right now. I would think a minimum of $2000 to $2500 as a starting point. Send pics.

Re: Keel Restoration?
Best suggestion for keel restoration. Drop keel, sandblast, repaint....This will also allow you to inspect condition of keel including pivot hole and lock bolt hole.

Re: Keel Restoration?
I am considering putting a stainless steel bushing in pivot bolt hole. put bushing in dry ice, slowly heat cast iron keel. insert bushing. This would help prevent wearing a bigger hole in pivot hole. Any thoughts?
