Re: Questions for Chesapeake Sailors
Depends what you are looking for. For St michaels the south side off broad creek is nice little calm creek anchorage with dinghy dock. From there its a short sail up the Tred Avon to Oxoford (we anchor in the shallows near the cemetary behind town) and another short sail to Cambridge which is larger...

Re: Rusty swivel bracket, Honda 50
Kinda tough to tell how that one works, but if you can hammer it it should work. If I remember right I found one at harbor freight and after research I used a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic tranny fluid and a 3lb sledge. That solution forced in over a few days disolved the blockages and got thin...

Re: Rusty swivel bracket, Honda 50
I had the same probem with a suzuki I purchased used. Long story short an impact grease cleaning tool will free it up. You fill it with automatic tranny fluid or another fluid of choice and pound the heck out of it with a hammer to drive fresh fluid in under high pressure and force the concrete hard...

Re: Dometic bit it (Suggest additional forum, gear and equipment
My electronics went bad in my Dometic, Larger generic, and buddies ARB. In all 3 we were able to take out the original electroncs and plug in a $15 temperature controller/relay between the compressor and power and been working fine since. https://www.amazon.com/Inkbird-All-Purpose-Temperature-Contro...

Re: Steering for 26X with etec 90hp and 5.5" Jack Plate
hat's a big motor, and a long thin linkage that you've put a bend in. I'd move it further out from the motor to give you better leverage If you move it to the outer pivot the motor will only turn about halfway. The angled back steering with the further setback of the jackplate makes the motor swing...

Re: Steering for 26X with etec 90hp and 5.5" Jack Plate
It looks like you are getting it figured out. I had a similiar binding issue at first. I had a different type of motor connecting bar (OEM I think) and fully threaded the end on, but did not lock it down with a locknut it so it could turn on the threads as the motor tilted. My bar was not angled lik...

Re: Its time to Re-power
We were looking the steering over last night and we think we can do a 6" jack plate by using a longer connection rod to the outboard. I know a few have gone bigger, but I can't find any good pictures of the steering linkage. Can someone upload some? I'd also love some first-hand experience. Ca...

Re: Hunter 23.5 over 26C - talk me out of it?
I had a 26x and my nextdoor neighbor a hunter 23.5. I towed his 23.5 for him and helped set up take down a few seasons and we kept the at the marina together during the summer. It trailered well. He later towed it with his honda CRV. I have some pics of us rafted together, but woudl have to dig for ...

Re: Recommended method to keep non-skid clean?
I recently found a power washer makes it easier. I agree, I was hesitant a long time but not sure how I lived without it now :D I picked up a little ryobi thats easy to carry to the boat. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRijWpxTmWFLILnvoKt0Pd2LCBvL_gbcYnkmW8aybjx4r0RnmMFrbkC_3c...

Re: Learning Materials on Pamlico Sound Area
Take a look at the abermarle loop, Manteo is a stop on it. We have spent a week doing parts of it every spring for about 10 years. Its more than 2 weeks of free marinas. Cuts out the need for a dinghy, we liked taking bicycles though. https://www.albemarleloop.com/cc-slideshow-07fc43d0/images/large/...

Re: Anchor Chain and Alcohol
Everywhere is different for anchoring needs. A side effect I noticed of chain is in normal conditions, say under 20 knts wind, chain kept my :macx: from sailing at anchor or swinging in the wind. When I had a short amount of chain it was constantly sailing left and right, when the rode is mostly cha...

Re: Favourite youtube sailing channels
I generally don't get into youtube, but I met a couple via another usergroup that purchased the same boat I have last summer. He said they were going to make a youtube channel as a job and live on the boat. I was skeptical, but they are great people so tried to help them and worked on it with them. ...

Re: Launched
It’s a dometic. The power plug had gotten hot, and the tip no longer seats correctly. Time for a replacement plug, maybe a better quality one. Maybe replace the plug with a heavier duty connector like SAE https://images.autods.com/ebay_images/393-Sparking-10Awg-Sae-To-Sae-Extension-Cable-Dc-Power-A...

Hot water heater
Wanted to share this since I have tried a few options and this one has worked out well over the past year and half. Its small, fairly light, and comes in a bag so there is nothing to install and easy to leave at home if its not needed. Not much setup, pump drops in a water container and use. I just ...
