High and dry
Has anyone stored their boat in a high and dry? I am thinking about it, but don't want to put too much stress on the hull since it has some rocker.

water ballast
I was lucky and was able to keep my boat on a lift. It looks like that may change soon, and it will go into a slip. Whenever I drained the water ballast, I could drain an additional 5 to 10 gallons, if I tilted the boat, to make the drain side of the hull bottom was parallel to the water. Since fibe...

Re: Walmart Marine-Maxx Batteries
Thanks for the tip. Will check water levels more frequently. The boat heels quite a bit in heavier air, so maybe they leaked a little.

Re: Walmart Marine-Maxx Batteries
I had a Walmart starter battery. I turned the key to start the motor, and the top blew off of the battery. When I looked into the compartment, you could see the individual cells. An internet search said that the probable cause was a short igniting the gases inside the battery. I returned the battery...

Re: Lightning Strike!
I have taken several lightening strikes throughout the years in commercial aircraft. Luckily, no major problems. With the FADEC engines it may cause some rollbacks but for me, none so far.
It does get a little exciting though.

Re: Lightning Strike!
We took a strike a couple of years ago. I'm not exactly sure where it it, but a big 100 foot tree died in our front yard. It blew out a lot of the electronics that you mentioned. As to the boat, it was on a lift also. What got damaged was one of the motors. The boat itself was fine. I think that the...

Re: Anchor Sail
Thanks. That helps a lot. I tried to center it on the boom, but will try lower, further back and to one side like you did.

Re: Anchor Sail
I was in about 2 1/2 feet of water so all boards were up. I fastened the sail onto the topping lift and boom, so it was fairly aft. I got the sail from Sailrite. Search "anchor sail". Next time, I will try with the board down, although the reason I got the sail was to eliminate the noise o...

Anchor Sail
I just tried out an anchor sail this weekend. The boat swung around as much as before. Anyone else tried an anchor sail, and what were the results?

I used the Doyle Loft in St Petersburg. They were fair and reasonable, and performed the repair on time.

Re: Recommendation for 50 HP 4 cycle Out Board Motor
I have a 50HP Honda which is bullet proof. The motor is a 2000 and I bought it new. I don't know what the fuel burn/ speed gain numbers are for a bigger motor. Bottom line is that this motor is adequate power wise. I won't win any races, but can probably go farther. As to towing, I pull a kneeboard ...

Motor sailing works great in light winds. I have done it a lot on trips, when I needed some forward progress.

Re: Replacing Water Ballast Valve
I did the repair. Very easy to do. Probably 1/2 hour. Must be done dry though, as the sealant has to adhere and dry.
