Re: Through-Hull Transducer
Hi there, I went aground in a shallow mucky lake (Lake Winnebago) this weekend on my '84 Mac25 , and realized I probably eventually need to replace my depth finder indicator (the old one is busted). It has an existing through-hull transducer epoxied to the hull, and I'm wondering if through-hull tr...

Re: How to burn rope ends?
I love my splicing fids and try to use those for everything (that is double braid anyway) rope end butt splices included. Sure makes a nicer more hand friendly finish. Looks good too!

Re: Rigging and Mast Raising
Just a small suggestion that saves a lot of headach with raising/lowering the mainsail: I spray each slug with a small shot of Mclube as they go into the mast track. Makes raising
/lowering the main a breeze.

Re: Gate valve
Gate valve leaking??!! I haven't noticed that before but I do worry about it. I check the water level on a regular basis but so far have never seen any noticeable drop.

Re: Lowering mast with main stowed on boom
I did this for a few summers but noticed this past season that the boom reciever was bent and loose on the mast. I redid the rivets and bent the 'ears' back in place. Maybe detaching the boom works. My sail is heavy material so maybe interferes more. For me I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Cheap Emergency Steering
This is an awesome idea. I usually start thinking about steering failures when I get in uncomfortable situations like when we were heading into Glacier Bay in SE Alaska last July. Missed the slack tide by about 1/2 hr due to strong headwind and big (7 to 8') waves. Got into the converging tides and ...

Re: Has anyone had this happen?
I also have this issue with the loose but not falling off boom attachment. It has been like that for a while and I have been thinking of re riveting. I wasn't sure if there was actually supposed to be some play in it. Sounds like not so I'll put it on the priority list.

Re: Northern Mac Roundup
Yes definitely an incredible trip. Such an abundance of sea wildlife. And the halibut fishing fantastic! No wonder it is known for world class cruising. We're definitely going back next time with an enclosure! Thanks to Yukon Bob for organizing and guiding us through this area. Trip of a lifetime!

Re: Flipping a Macgregor
Yeah my sailing experience was also in dingys with no ballast (albacore) and if you didn't monitor the main sheet closely they flipped fairly easily. I was pretty freaked when I first started sailing my M. Actually I'm still kind on the edge of my seat sailing always with the cleated off sheet in my...

Re: Small critter(s) got into the boat over the winter
This is a timely subject as I have just discovered evidence of a critter in our M. Torn up paper towel in bilge under galley. I think they just got in there recently. So I vacuumed up the start of the nest. Now I see they are chewing up the foam between the cockpit and the rear birth. Bits of styro ...
