Re: Where you have the fresh water fill in?

I have a flexible tank under the v-berth also. The fill port is on the deck forward of the anchor locker. That allowed me to run the hose down through the tip of the v-berth where it is out of the way. The fill port isn't in the best location to get to if you are filling from a dock but it isn't too...

Re: Life at my boat ramp

There's been a couple times trying to load my X in a crosswind that I could have been video'd. Especially when I first got it and hadn't extended the goal posts and v-block. Also, trying to hit the trailer without a rudder or some keel down.

Re: 12 gal fuel/gas tank for MAC26X

I have two if these in my X. Had to enlarge the holes maybe 1/4 inch all around and remove the cap to get them in. I installed access panels above the fill ports in the seat to make refueling easier. I don't think I'd be able to fill them without them. Moeller 630013LP Portable Fuel Tank, 12 - Gallo...

Re: Hidding a wire behind the top liner in the cabin

I was going to make a piece of trim to hold my wires up. Until then I just used some clear packing tape. It's not the prettiest solution but looks better than the wires drooping down. I haven't had to take it off yet to see what kind of mess I'll have with the adhesive.

Re: Winch replacement

I went with the Andersen 12ST. Having the sheet pop out of the camcleat while sailing all the time was the most annoying thing. Putting self tailing winches on the boat was one of my top upgrades and I have never regretted it. They were definitely the most expensive upgrade at about $450 each. I lik...

Re: New Mast

I got my mast from BWY shipped to Atlanta. The mast was around $600 drilled. Shipping was right around $600. I'd have to look but I think it was a roughly $1200-$1400 replacement for me.

Re: Size and type of water tank

I have the triangular tank under the v-berth and I love it. If you are concerned about weight then don't fill it all the way up. I was initially concerned that when mine was completely full it would be too tall and hit whatever screws are poking through the access panel but there seems to be plenty ...

Re: How much rake? ....

Correct me if I'm wrong but the rake should be set with the angle in relation to the water. I had mine initially set referencing from the deck but my boat was very stern heavy at the time making the rake way too far aft. It wanted to round up with every puff and was a real chore to keep on track. I ...

Re: Anyone Listing While Not Onboard

Mine listed to port when I had the batteries and water on that side. Everything tends to be stored on that side too. I moved the batteries and put a larger water tank under the v-berth and that solved the listing and lowered the bow. Lowering the bow reduced the rake on the mast and helped the handl...

Re: VHF Channel monitoring

I always have mine on and monitoring 16 when in salt water. Though, if the engine is running, I can't hear anything on it. Before I installed the RAM3 on the helm, I couldn't hear anything on it. I could hear talk but couldn't comprehend anything from the helm. Last time I used it the radio was pret...

Re: fuel tanks needed

I have the 12 gal Moeller 630013LP tanks in mine. But I did have to widen the holes about 1/2 inch in each direction in put in access panels. Since you don't want to modify anything the 2x 6 gal tanks seem the way to go. For how much cutting I've done on my boat since I got it, the mods to put in th...

Re: Preparing For a High Wind Sail

Read the weather conditions that day. Reef accordingly. Don't be afraid to back out if the winds are beyond your limits. It's hard to do sometimes when you have time and money invested into participating.

Re: 26S standing rigging tension

I messed around with the rigging again and I think I got it pretty close. At least it's an acceptable amount of bend With tensions high enough. Now how about some advice for the dynamic tuning. When beating into the wind and the lower shroud goes slack, what is the correction? What if the upper goes...

Re: 26S standing rigging tension

I assume the bend you mention is fore-aft. Won't tightening the forestay remove some of the mast bend? Are you struggling to pin it in place? It should be somewhat difficult to pin when its all set correctly. Yes, I'm referring to the fore/aft bend that is supposed to be about 2 inches at the middl...

Re: 26S standing rigging tension

I'm going to jump on this thread instead of creating new. I just replaced all the rigging on my X and spent half the day trying to get it tensioned correctly without having too much bend in the mast. I have the forestay set. Backstay slack. Then I pretensioned the upper shrouds to set the slight ben...
