What type of outboard do you have, and what speeds can you get with that load?

Re: insulating the built in ice chest storage
It didn't affect mine at all. The insert fits just like it always did.

Re: Need advice on new outboard.
Unfortunately, the closest dealer is 3 hours away, in Phoenix. There are only two there; Tohatsu or Evinrude. I could drive 6 hours to San Diego, and get whatever I want, which is sounding like a better option. I have heard lots of good things about the Yamaha!

Re: Need advice on new outboard.
A few years ago I bought a Coleman 5hp, which is mad by Parsun. It was a piece of junk, and parts were a royal PITA to get. I didn't get it through the break-in, before it crapped out on me. Something in the fuel tank broke loose, plugging the fuel line. It took forever to figure that one out. The t...

Re: insulating the built in ice chest storage
I did insulate mine. I took 2" styrofoam sheets, and cut them to fit. An electric knife works fairly well, but a hot wire cutter works better if you have one. I used the foam insulation you get in a can, to hold it in place. I also made a lid to fit. It worked okay. It would keep ice for a day ...

Need advice on new outboard.
I am needing to buy a new outboard, and I have a few questions I hope you can help me with. I plan on doing some extended trips on salt water, and since it will not be possible to flush the engine for a month or two, will this damage it? Is there a brand that is better protected than others? I have ...

Re: Windows
BWY recommends using black silicone adhesive caulk to bed and seal the windows. Just received my new windows with instructions. I am replacing all of them. Here is what #2 on the instructions says: "Use only silicone sealant to bed the windows, to match the look of the other windows, use black ...

Re: looking for a dinghy --ideas
This is the one I have. It is a big sucker, and can handle up to a 20hp motor. I run a 6hp Mercury on it, and it cruises about 5 mph. It is extremely stable, and rows easily. I have rowed it a mile before, and wasn't tired. It also tows great!

Re: Replacement Sails
I replaced my sails a couple years ago through BWY, and they were Doyle. I have no complaints.

Re: what would you recommend as a Dinghy for my 99 26x
I have a Newport Vessels 12' inflatable. It is extremely stable, and doesn't tip at all when you board it off the boat or shore. I was really amazed by that fact! It is a heavy beast, and although I can load it into the truck by myself, I am sure it will put me in the hospital one day. I run a Mercu...

Re: stove types, alternatives to alcohol?
Just buy denatured alcohol at any hardware store. It is cheap, and works great.

Re: Solar Panel Wiring Question?
Thanks for the advice! I am heading out in the morning for a month of sailing in different places in Texas. Wanted to make sure I didn't screw up my electrical system on the trip.

Solar Panel Wiring Question?
I have my solar panel wired through a charge controller to my batteries which are wired in parallel. I have a battery selector switch, and have it set to both. My question is; do I need to disconnect the solar prior to starting the engine? Will the charge coming from the engine harm the charge contr...

Re: Would you do motor 30 miles on a used boat?
Heck...I motored my 1998
all the way to Catalina Island and back the first time out. That was 60 miles round trip. Just go for it! The boatus towing did save my bacon when the wind blew me into muck while I was trying to dock. Get it!
