Re: Prospective X Purchaser

In Spain, as bilge pumps are mandatory, all 26s (X and M) had a manual bilge pump as standard equipment (the importer installed it in each boat before selling it).

Re: Orca-Proof Boats

These orcas are active in Spain's and Portugal's Atlantic coast and the Gibraltar Straits. If you are looking for a marina in Mediterranean Spain, the Balearic or the Canary islands, you don't need to worry about them.

Re: Do I Really Need /Want a Jib Halyard?

https://i.postimg.cc/LJg7gd8b/CDI-Roller-Furler-parts-3606-110-4.png Based on this technical drawing of the CDI roller furler (courtesy BWY), it appears that the flattened line running up the spine (K in diagram) is a jib halyard... which makes sense in hindsight, since a jib halyard fixed to the m...

Re: Inflatible Kajak as a dinghi

I have a Decathlon kayak, and you don't need to worry about the strength of the fabric, it's really strong. But remember that they take a long time to dry up, and it's not a good idea to keep them deflated and packed wet for a long time, because rot, fungus and odour appear.

Re: European great loop

I heard of a Danish guy who sailed from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean through German, Belgian and French channels and rivers. He got to the Mediterraenan in the Rhone river, and then, he coasted to Greece.

Re: What communications radio do you have?

I have a fixed Cobra VHF transceiver with DSC (no AIS) in the cabin. The antenna is on the top of the mast. I also have a handheld VHF as a backup. Both are a bit old (the Cobra was already installed when I bought the boat 10 years ago, and the handheld is a carryover from my previous boat), but the...

Re: Sail or Motor

I know the Mac is a compromise. But it was the boat that suited my needs best, and I knew what I was buying. I've been a Mac Owner for ten years and I don't regret it.

Re: 26x Offshore capabilities - Newbie

I've been 10 miles (nautical miles) from the coast, and there was nothing special about it. I know a guy who used to sail from mainland Spain to Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands in his 26M... that's 60 nautical miles.

Re: List of Questions: Ballast, Sails, etc.

I'll answer what I can... Below are a list of questions that I could not find answers anywhere on the web. Instead of 14 additional posts, I put them in one. Someone on the forum asked what I wanted to do with it. I am attracted to the MacGregor 26 because it is the only boat with a big cabin for we...
