Re: PFD Cost
MSN wrote; The whole idea is to keep your butt in/on the boat. This is not exactly true. If the tether is needed, you want to be certain that the tether is short enough to keep your head out of the water. If one goes overboard, there is no guarantee that he/she will be conscious. If one goes overbo...

Re: Water depth at Trail Creek, Michigan City?
I’m not sure there is a site that monitors and reports the water level for Trail Creek (Michigan City, IN). There are a number of sites that will report the current depth for Lake Michigan and with that information you should be able to figure out the relative depth on the Creek. I hate to use the w...

Re: PFD Cost
Thank for all the input. A few more questions. I noted several of the high end Mustang vest @ Bpro advertise 5yrs between rearm. Rearm kits $59.95. I did not see any rearm time periods advertised in the lower price vests. comments? Irrespective of the harness capabilities on the upper end vests. As...

Re: The Great Loop support Network..post area you can cover
If I'm in the area when help is needed, I'm good for the waters around Milwaukee, WI. Will assist as far north as Port Washington and as far south as Racine. Can provide advise for most of Lake Michigan.

Re: Any of you around Chicago...
90 miles (two days) north. Owned our :macm: for five seasons. Great all-round boat and, the most important thing, it really hooked my wife on sailing. Of course the tenderness and lack of creature comforts had her tell me "We need a bigger boat!". 12.5 foot beam makes for a very stable pla...

Re: ASA101 / 103 certification
Just curious. How many of you have gotten an ASA 101 or 103 certification. I've spoken with a friend of mine who just completed his ASA 101. After telling him about what I was planning on doing with my new boat he said that I know more of the terminology and theory than he came out of the course wi...

Re: Sailing Green Bay and Door County
Hello all, This summer (June 2011) my wife and I plan to take our 26S to Sturgeon Bay, launch and explore the bay and Door County penninsula. Anyone ever done this? Any recomendations for stopovers, harbors, moorings etc.? Anyone care to join a flotilla? This will be our first ever multiple day exc...

Our dockmates have used the Mariner 500 Headset Walkie-Talkies for years and swear by them. These are hands free double earmuff units. Plenty of reviews out there on various sailing forums. One seller is - http://www.seafaring.com/shipstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=240_247&prod...

hey guys !! Thanks for all the replies! Is there any special brand of anti-fouling bottom paint or epoxy undercoat that's better or easier to use ?? .... Matt :macm: Welcome to sailing and the Mac world. The "need" for epoxy barrier coat and anti-fouling is driven by how you store your bo...

Re: Restoring her bottom
Paul, If there is any way you can contact the previous owner, it will save you a ton of work if you find out what he put on the boat. A proper job would have a two-part epoxy barrier coat with anti-fouling applied to that. There is no need to sand it all off if the barrier coat is still sound. A key...

Re: Barrier Coat
Is 2 gallons of Interlux 2000E enough to do a roller/brush on barrier coat on a 26M? Yes, two one-gallon kits will do the job. You will be able to apply four coats. I would suggest you get one white kit and one grey. Mix only a half gallon at a time and alternate the colors to ensure you get good c...

Re: Was I ripped off?
The price you paid back then is nothing compared to the price you are paying now. (BTW, you didn't over-pay for the used X) It took me years to let my wife convice me that we should dump the stink pot gas guzzler and get a sailboat. :D The Mac had everything we wanted except the stability "she ...

After four wonderful season sail UNA MAS on Lake Michigan and Wisconsin lakes, the Admiral told me we needed a bigger boat for extended cruising on the Great Lakes. Our 2006 26M is headed for Texas in the next 48 hours. I can't thank all of you enough for all the information and Mods that made our (...
