Re: Need to raise mast higher than the Bimini/dodger.

The split bushing is a BNC 1" ID x 1 1/8" OD by 1" long. It takes a little force with a wood block and mallet to get it to the correct position. I used 1" OD SS Tubing that matched the arch about 12" to 15" long. I inserted a 7/8" OD tubing by about 12" long i...

Re: Need to raise mast higher than the Bimini/dodger.

I did this last spring. I raised the mast arch about 12" by extending the legs with SS tubing the same size as the arch using SS tubing that fit perfectly inside. As a plus, I found some split bushings that fit the mounts and took all the slop out of the mast arch. Now there is no movement. If ...

Re: Just bought a Tattoo 26. Looking for other sailers near Rochester, MI

The fall sailing was very hectic. We managed to get out a few times on weekday afternoons and had great wind. Had to sail up the river to sheltered waters North of Grosse Ile a couple times. Pulled the boat on October 29th and just barely got it cleaned up and shrink wrapped before the first snow fa...

Re: Just bought a Tattoo 26. Looking for other sailers near Rochester, MI

I guess that there are no Macgregor or Tattoo owners in your immediate area. I have had my 26M at Lake Erie Metro Park marina for the past 6 years and find that it is fantastic as it gives me the option of sailing at the mouth of the Detroit River in great conditions most of the time. In heavier win...

Dodger Design for 26M

Last year I bought a Sailrite Dodger Kit. I did not make it at the time as I was going to make a full Bimini enclosure to fit my generic Bimini first. I ended up purchasing the BWY 26M Bimini with the back and side panels, which I installed after getting the stern rail seats this past sailing season...

Re: Last Sail of Season - Rudder Pivot Bolt Failure

It would be very unusual for a 3/8" stainless steel pivot bolt, in a stainless steel bracket, in fresh water, to break under those conditions, IMO. Were the pivot bolt holes deformed? My best guess is that the rudder hit something. HI Bill, As a matter of fact, the pivot bolt holes were not def...

Last Sail of Season - Rudder Pivot Bolt Failure

My last sail of the season started out great. Good winds and 2-3 foot waves. We sailed out toward the Detroit Light House at the mouth of the Detroit River at about 5mph. We were rocking over the waves and were even asked by a Canadian Coast Guard crew member if we were having fun yet. We responded ...

Great Day Sailing Yesterday on Lake Erie

This time of year is great for sailing as long as you dress for the weather. Yesterday was a little over 50 degrees F, but the wind was a steady 15mph with gusts to 20. We were out for a little over three hours and covered 19 miles at an average speed of 6mph. The only draw back was the shot across ...

How do you store your enclosure panels?

I just installed the Blue Water Yachts large bimini on my 26M. I also got the back and side enclosure panels. They came with the window cut-outs taped to the outside and the window panel protective paper taped on the inside. This did a great job of protecting the window material for shipment. I was ...

Re: Adding Solar

I have a KingSolar 100w flexible panel mounted on the sliding hatch and have had no problems with walking on it with deck shoes. The only problem that I did have is that it cannot take power washing. There is a thin film on the panel that will separate and blow off from the power washing stream. Cau...

Re: Finding good wind is a real pain...

Ummm ... you are near Toledo OH, or just north of it, yes? Wouldan't that be the west end of Lake Erie? I'm at the east end, near Buffalo. Yes, you are correct, that would be the WEST end of Lake Erie. Went out yesterday and sailed EAST 25 miles round trip in a little over 5 hours. Great sailing. W...

Re: Finding good wind is a real pain...

I sail the East end of Lake Erie at the mouth of the Detroit River and have to say that this has been a great year for sailing this area. Winds have been moderate at 7-10 MPH for most of the 27 times that we got out so far this year. Going out today with 10 MPH NE winds with 14 MPH gusts. Hoping for...
