Re: A few random questions
I am thinking about just adopting the plastic pipe option. Clamp a length of the right-sized PVC where you need it and hang the anchor in (vertically). I am not sure how to deal with the chain and rode, but am certain it would not be hard to figure out.

Re: Water ballast
Alex, It is important to have a full ballast before raising sails. Having said that, mine is usually 1-2" below the top of the ballast tank. I have always believed that if I can touch it with my pinkie, all is well. Some folks here have rigged a mod which acts as a ballast level indicator. I am...

Re: A few random questions
I have two danforth-type anchors. One is small enough to leave in the anchor locker and is good for lunch and really calm anchorages. The larger one holds much better, but has to live on my anchor roller. If you get a heavier anchor, get an anchor ball and learn how to use it...saves your back. I ha...

Re: Better Pointing into the Wind
I would think a hank-on foresail would be a pain, especially since I usually am single-handed. My solution was to get a jib with luff pads that help maintain good sail shape when you reef it in. It works very well, and aids in pointing a bit higher, in my opinion.

Re: Better Pointing into the Wind
Seems there are those who are driven by performance, and also those (like me) who just go loaf around on our boat...:) I sail in a pretty challenging area, UK-Norfolk coast. Lots of tide, currents, variable winds, shoals, etc. I don't have any fun out there if I go for that last half-knot of speed, ...

Re: Transport or no....
I transported mine from the US to Australia back in 2013, I engaged a specialist company to do this for me, this is all they do, they have done it thousands of times for many years, RORO was the only option they make available, it is easy and cheap, you only pay for the boat and trailer, you don't ...

Re: Transport or no....
Guess I asked the wrong forum...did not anticipate being mocked. First of all, you have to either remove your axles or cut them off...maybe also the hitch. I have read on several forums of folks who had their hulls sustain considerable damage from containers that were treated in a less than gentle m...

Transport or no....
Folks, I am starting to get my ducks in a row for when I retire in 3 years. We live in the UK, and I am finally getting my :macm: where I want it. I am playing around with the idea of just shipping it to Texas (retirement destination) on a ro/ro carrier. I know I don't want to container it because o...

Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?
Fluxgate is just abaft the heads door, right against the floor. Thanks Baha, but just a tad too SeaTalk for me :D So your Fluxgate is on the roof of the Toilet compartment, just in front of the Daggerboard tunnel ... Is that correct? Near the floor under the mirrored bulkhead (forward dinette seat)

Re: Adding Shore Power
I am considering not hard-wiring the shore power at all. In the UK, they have power leads with a GFI unit included.

Re: Sportdrive X-5 ... Ok or not for a Mac?
Quick update.... I went for the X-5 Sportpilot kit and it arrived in perfect condition. Never fitted and still wrapped in plastic in the Raymarine Box. I figured it the easiest solution to fit and if it doesn't work well (for some reason) I can alway but a Wheelpilot and attach that to my controlle...

Re: Where you have the fresh water fill in?
I am changing and simplifying my setup this year. My water use is minimal, so I am taking out the rigid tank that the PO mysteriously put under the stove in the galley, reclaiming that space for much needed storage. I am then planning to use the portable water cans that some have mentioned. I think ...
