Re: Steel Trailer Reno
Hi DoodleBugger, On my old trailer I used to throw a wide band ratchet strap down each side, passing just behind the helm, then secured (lopped) around either side of the steel trailer frame. And I used to use a wide band ratchet strap over the bow down to the frame again. But even without these str...

Re: Steel Trailer Reno
Hi OverEasy, Well the POR15, despite it's high price, proved to be pretty useless and rust was all over the trailer just 12 months (and maybe 4 seawater launch'es) later. :( Weather here has been rain, rain, rain so I'm hoping thing will change for the better in the coming weeks. 8) All the best. Re: Steel Trailer Reno
Blue plastic skids were always good for loading on and off... Rollers are no easier, wear too quickly (from road vibrations), so require maintenance. And with the wind up they can end up scraping your hull during loading. I have a new Aluminium trailer now (with fancy Torsion suspension and skids) b...

Re: Best sailing speed
From what I've read now it seems that the HDPE material is more flexible (and does deflect under way) but harder to break, but I'm have no understanding of how this "Airfiol" principal is supposed to be physically working on a rudder? ... especially as there's no difference between port an...

Re: Best sailing speed
Vertically in the water the rudder would have an identical profile to have a neutral position straight ahead (i presume). When you turn you create a high pressure zone at the forward face of the rudder and a low pressure at the rearward facing (just like the sail). This would push the rear of the b...

Very good question Kurz
Although it does say "Airfoil" ... which is kinda odd as it's sitting in water (Hydrofoil).

Re: DIY Mercury EFI engine inline fuel filterS replacement
Good luck with that. May I just add that if your high pressure filter is black inside it may be that the two Nitrile (Rubber/Nbr) Grommets that are inside your VST are deteriorating. See items 24 (Sleeve) and 25 (Grommet) here ... https://www.boats.net/catalog/mercury/outboard-by-year/mercury-outboa...

Re: Overfilling the ballast tank?
Hi guys, I'm just back from a wild weekend in Cairns (60th Birthday celebration in Queensland) and I have to tell you that plunging head first down a 50meter tower did not make my head spin as much as reading all your very high-tech replies :D The manual says NO MORE THAN 1 inch below the hole. The ...

Re: Overfilling the ballast tank?
:D Nice one Jimmy. My vent hole is actually piped (via a high loop) out to my anchor locker so thermal expansion would not be an issue for me....and I guess the brass/rubber plug would also blow out well before the tank was under too much stress. Having said all this I'm now wondering... is the Vent...

Overfilling the ballast tank?
Hi Gents, The 26M manual says we should fill the ballast tank to 1" below the vent hole ... But ignoring the potential for water splashing out of the hole, wouldn't it be better to fill that tank up as much as possible? ... Because when heeling any air in the tank would only move to the high si...

Re: Steel Trailer Drawing
Hi Warren,
I can't even download it myself ... so I must have moved or deleted it at some point.
Are you looking specifically for the steel trailer drawing? .... Single or dual Axle?
All the best.
