Re: Courageous Mod 3: Battery Monitors/USB

Yes if possible you should buy your batteries at the same time from the same lot. We bought 4 Trojan 105, 6 volt batteries in 2015 and use them every year in our boat or trailer for 7 to 9 months. They still are working just fine. Here is a pic of our electronics board in the Mac. https://i.postimg....

Re: celebrating 20 years of Mac ownership

In 2015 my wife and I went to Sanford to look at Hershal's Mac and helped him put his mast up. We eventually bought a Mac 26X a few weeks later. Still have it and have traveled over 14000 miles on the Mac. Have only had it 8 years but no regrets. We do not use the mast just use the boat as a trawler...

Re: Planning a trip up the inside passage to Alaska

Mike aka Chinook took his 26 X from I think Washington state up to Alaska. Cannot remember where his website is located. Might find it here under posts by Chinook.

Re: Where are the "old guard" of this forum?

Sumner, Chinook, Hershel, Gazmn and several others were instrumental in us buying a 26X back in 2015 and many of our mods came from their info. We have met several others. We even did part of our American Great Loop trip with Chinook and Sandy also visited them in Washington state at home. All the M...

Re: Hurricane Idalia and Be Free

Be free we are so glad you guys did OK. Now is the recovery time which will take a very long time for your town. It tends to get a little depressing after a couple of weeks of no electricity and the recovery is always slow. We have had 3 bad hurricanes in central Florida since August 2004. We used a...

Hurricane Idalia and Be Free

Not sure how close you live to Steinhatchee but if you are close you must be prepping or will start Tuesday. Hope you are not in a low area. We are hoping and praying it will die down to a category 1 by landfall. A Category 3 storm surge would be bad. Be safe my friend.

8 years after buying our Mac we finally sailed a Mac

We bought our Mac X in 2015. After thousands of miles of motoring a Mac we finally got to sail one. It was a slow blue one not a X. :) But it was fun. Sailed on Rice Lake which is just north of Lake Ontario and 40 minutes east of Toronto Canada.Met these folks up here on the Trent/Severn waterway la...

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M as a motor cruiser only - which one to choose?

We only have one bank of batteries. They do motor starting and serve as house bank. The alternator puts out 27 amps, 5 for the motor and 22 amps for the batteries. So the 175 watt panel charges the same batteries as the engine alternator. Be Free up here in Minden Canada it was 57 this morning and a...

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M as a motor cruiser only - which one to choose?

As he can see in the picture above a motor is a 60 hp. It will not plane the boat with 30 gallons of water and clothes and stuff for long travel. Cording to our motor information system 95% of our travel is at 10 miles an hour or less. We usually cruise at 7 to 8 mph. We have a 175 W solar panel tie...

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M as a motor cruiser only - which one to choose?

We chose a X over a M as we planned to use the boat as a trawler when we bought it. 13,500 miles later still think the X is the way to go for a Mac trawler. When motoring you cannot turn the wheel loose and expect a Mac to go straight if you have taken off the rudders. A wheel pilot will not work as...

Re: High speed motoring ballast empty or full

Our boat is totally dry But we use our Mac as a trawler and we have a complete inclosure of the cockpit. It can poure down and we can motor in comfort.

Re: Help calculating towing weight

In a Kia this might not help but we have a silverado 1500, 2 wheel drive and we put all the real heavy stuff in the back of the truck. The batteries, 10 gallons of water plus clothes, and kitchen stuff ride in the boat. The dinghy, dinghy motor, anchors with chain and all the other heavy stuff rides...

Re: Cabin Flooring?

We also use carpet on the cabin floor. One piece from ladder/toilet /galley area. One on the step up from galley area to the v-berth. We also put carpet under the table. Makes it easy on bare feet and much warmer in cold weather than just the floor. We also never wear shoes below and we have no chil...

Re: new 26X owners

As others have said "Welcome". We put our transducer on the stern (starboard side). We do not like the idea of drilling a large hole below the water line on a Mac. We do not even have a small hole below the water line. Because of disabilities we use the Mac as a trawler. This is a great fo...
