Re: Almost ready

That's REAL fine...very distinctive. I particularly like the way you've tapered that red stripe from thick at bow to thin amidships. Very nice indeed!

Re: MacGregor 19 emergency kicker motor

I thought that is what the sails were for :D I launch backwards, usually single-handed, inside a basin typically teeming with drunken idiots racing about to and fro on jetskis five or six up with nary a PDF between them, who I sort of doubt passed the required Virginia State Boating Proficiency Exa...

Re: MacGregor 19 emergency kicker motor

I've got a little Mercury-badged Tohatsu 2.5 hp opened up to 3.5 (an easy-peasy mod, requiring only removal of a restrictor plate in the intake manifold), and it pushes my fairly stout little Com-Pac 16 "Foundling" around quite handily. Unless you've got some really stiff currents to contend with, 5...

Re: Rub rail restorer?

Yup! Not that "black" is such a challenge huewise, but it's a spot on color match to my 26X's rub rail. At least, I cannot tell any difference.

Man - you guys are a tough crowd.
I can assure you Boat, that you and your inspired mods are among the chief reasons I check in here from time to time. Carry on, mate. Let that freak flag fly!

Re: Rub rail restorer?

If it's just blackening up the color a bit, that Turtle Wax Jet Black will do the trick. If you want to dress up any gouges, then that Performix Liquid Electrical Tape from Harbor Freight really does the job well. I got my X several years ago from what must have been a "docking-challenged" previous ...

Re: Aft storage, 20 drawers, 10 cubbies, $120

That's a fine idea. One suggestion to make those rearward ones more easily accessible, poached from Robert F. Burgess' superb Handbook of Trailer Sailing , might be to attach a line to the rearmost ("aftmost"?) bottom crosspiece of those Sterilites and lead that line forward. That way, you could jus...

Re: I'm back...and other tales of woe

[...Snip!] I was tipped that Walmart Marine batteries are a great value and a good battery. Series 27 deep cycle was just under $100. Any experience with them? I would be curious to learn exactly which Walmart deep cycle battery you are describing, as my own 26X's two batteries are getting a bit lo...

Re: Thank You Health for getting the forum working again

I noticed that the forum search still only goes back about 12 months. Is that functionality gone forever? There's such a treasure of comments and discussions, I hope he can fix that. For now, here's a workaround until Heath & Co. can herd those digital ducklings back into line: Just tack "site:http...

Just FYI, the actual gunboat Philadelphia was recovered from Lake Champlain in the '30s and is presently on display in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

Re: Imagine A Powersailor design unconstrained by cost

how does a fella post pics on here? want to pull pics out of a file and post them. any help? There are lots of free image hosting services out there--a couple of which are to be avoided at all costs, notably Photobucket and Tinypic (owned by Photobucket). A quick Google search of "Photobucket sucks...

Re: Advice on buying 26M/X

I think the most important issue is the boat condition: buy the boat in best condition that fits your budget and you'll be all right, wether it's an :macx: or an :macm: . I think the :macx: is more beautiful, but that's just a personal opinion. My personal opinion fully concurs with your personal o...

Re: Advice on buying 26M/X

All things being equal, the bottom line is that you'd likely be happy with either model. Both have their relative virtues, as have been frequently hashed and rehashed and then hashed over some more on these forums * and elsewhere. Some good photos and other details (such as price, motor type and ove...

Re: *What Is It?* Actual question as I really don't know.

As one might discern from the bottom paint of my little "Foundling" Com-Pac 16 shown foreground below, with my 26X behind, I'm OK with maroon. In fact, I'd read somewhere that a blue hull is right up there with bananas on board as being bad luck. Something to do with taunting the sea god Poseidon......

Re: *What Is It?* Actual question as I really don't know.

Yeah, chop it up. It's pretty useless. You can reuse the rope to dress the Christmas turkey and the Velcro might be re-purposed as a marital aid of some kind or an adult sex toy, but really - chicken feathers work just as well and are less expensive. I'm thinking perhaps the original owner had dige...
