boat lift "bunks" measurement request for M?

For those among us who use a cradle type boatlift to keep the Mac above the fray, did you find a particular between measurement for the "bunks" so as to have the hull resting on the best possible support? I wish my lift bunks were crossways to the hull, just like the trailer, but they are ...

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?

Nah, the picture thing is way beyond my comprehension. Hull, I'm just getting onboard with the D.A. polisher. If you haven't used this stuff, and you really want excellent results, a DA with the foam pads is da bomb. At least compared to pure elbow grease and/or one of those stupid buffer/bonnet thi...

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?

UPDATE: Vinyl wrap was a no-go. A quote of $600 for materials sucked the wind from these sails. Back to painting the blacks, or so I thought--- As it turns out, I was extremely far "behind the times" when it comes to the CORRECT tools to use for prepping/waxing gel coat. For years, I took ...

Re: Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?

NiceAft, How did you apply the paint? Roll and Tip, Brush, Spray? Did you primer it first? I'm so over any kind of waxing just to keep a shine. I've read about the magic Newglass stuff. It seems to me to still stop somewhat short of the very best solution-- paint or perhaps the vinyl wrap solution. ...

Anyone tried a vinyl wrap for the @#%*^ blacks?

I'm at decision height. Either I "tip and roll" the black stripes with a good quality one part paint, or get them vinyl wrapped. I am not going to wax those mothers again. Looking online, most installers report a 5-7 year lifespan for the wrap. From what I've seen, the whole boat down to t...

All pertain to my M. 1. Adjustable "tie rod" to true the rudders/outboard/helm/boat. 2. Fixed, but adjusted dead ahead, outboard disconnect from steering rod. 3.Velcro on sliding hatch lips. 4. Ball valve to replace the ballast tank plug. 5. Stern seats. 6. Furler "quick loop" to...

8 year update on Velcro hatch slide mod

After doing the M hatch Velcro slide mod to stop the painful gritting and grinding noise every time we slid open the hatch 8 years ago, I just replaced the Velcro and wanted to give a report on my results. First of all, this mod works as advertised. Opening the hatch will no longer be that gritty so...

Re: Cr@p dropped the mast

I just made a new set of baby stays. I copied the originals at 6' exactly, center to center of the eyelets. I also bought the "V" bend mast hound to replace the stock "Round" bend hound from BWY. That made my 6' stays slightly to long, but was easily corrected for by re-sizing th...

"M" aluminum trailer concern/suggestion

A possible concern for aluminum trailer M owners out there. I was looking over my 2011 aluminum trailer for possible trouble spots to prep for a cross-country tow. I noticed that one of the four 4" x 4" (3-1/2" x 3-1/2") woodblocks that raise the bunks above the side rails has a ...

Questions about the Johnson Quick Release Lever Mod

I'm still setting up to tackle this mod and have read some older posts from folks who have done this to their forestay. I can't seem to get a clear picture on the final, most popular method to use. I'm curious for any current feedback from those who have done it. I assume that the better lever choic...

Re: Has anyone had this happen?

My 2005 M had the gooseneck plate become loose also, resulting with the holes drilled in the mast wallowed out/corroded bigger more than I cared for. After all, any new pop rivet will only expand but so much, and maybe the mast holes were to big for best long term holding results, was my theory. So,...

Re: 26 m with a 90 hp?

miamistyle, I also have the 90 TLDI Tohatsu (2004) on a 2005 M. I do raise the engine while under sail. It does not 100% clear the water, maybe 97% or so. The prop is fully dry however. I found that the engine would tend to "flop" to one side or the other and/or make the steering while sai...

Re: Cabin sliding hatch velcro mod

cougar, Yes, the Velcro goes on the sliding hatch on my boat. Others have put it on the hull. The noise is gone either way, but to my mind, any down the road velcro replacement should be easier working with the hatch at a bench, or such. I used the already sticky sided, industrial strength stuff fro...

Re: Cabin sliding hatch velcro mod

RIS, I searched and found the posts from 2009 when I first used the Velcro. 7 years later, it still works as well as day one, and I have done nothing other than hose a little water in the area at each wash down. It does not seem to be coming un-stuck anywhere. I don't know how much actual wear has o...
