Re: Max Horsepower for '01 26 x

Thanks SeaPup, your insight is greatly appreciated. I agree the newer mercury engines look huge, there is a little Boston whaler on the dock with a 40hp merc it looks like a 90hp. I was hoping the 115 pro XS was smaller that the ones I’ve seen, I did see a Yamaha 90, it measured about 25” above the ...

Re: Max Horsepower for '01 26 x

Popeye Pete, I to am looking to add more hp to my 1998 26x also. I want a quieter 4 stroke, less smell, ability to take to lakes that have restrictions for carbed 2 strokes, plus my 50hp carbed 2 stroke just won’t idle / run dependably anymore. From what I’ve read 90 hp Suzuki at 341 pounds seems to...

Anybody have the newer 90hp Yamaha on their boat?

I am shopping for a new motor for the 26x. Was convinced Suzuki was best 90hp, then saw yamaha has a 1800cc 90hp (vs 1500cc Suzuki) that is just 10lbs heavier. And Yamaha also has a 115hp that is just 34lbs heavier, plus both in Sho versions, (115hp model is said to have 126hp!, don’t know about 90 ...

Re: Changing 26x steering pedestal to 26m style

http://i63.tinypic.com/14in62b.png I have figured out I can raise pedestal 8” up and 8” back with a 4” round post with aluminum plates top and bottom. Rear seat fiberglass structure would get cut at 10” back from front edge, then raised 8” and attached with hinge like picture, but higher. This woul...

Re: Changing 26x steering pedestal to 26m style

Image Image heres my pedestal, I plan on raising engine remote control as high as possible, moving key switch into pedestal. The control arm on remote can be changed position 90 degrees, so I would change so it’s vertical in neutral.

Re: Changing 26x steering pedestal to 26m style

Thanks Sea Pup, Highlander, this is great info for me. My 98 26x has like you said a very low pedestal, with the outboard remote control even lower and angled with key underneath. Do you think my original drawing of cutting the pedestal bottom half off ,and installing a post with plates top and bott...

Re: Changing 26x steering pedestal to 26m post style

Thanks Tom, yes I didn’t consider the main sail forces. If I were to fabricate an aluminum plate same size as original pedestal footprint, And weld 4” post directly over cable hole into floor. Remote cables could enter on side halfway down. Could gusset bottom and connect top to main sail bracket in...

Changing 26x steering pedestal to 26m style

I think I saw this done before, now cannot find it. Does anybody sell the newer style pedestal? Or has anyone modded the existing pedestal to a post style like early 26m? I really don’t like lack of foot room, makes side seats next to pedestal kinda useless. Also would prefer pedestal higher and fur...
