26X transom floor core repairs

I should have taken pictures, but I was rather surprised to find balsa core in the deck in front of the ladder on my '96 X. I had some cracks in the gelcoat on the left and right sides of the transom to splash well. After grinding the cracks out I found that the floor back there is actually a balsa ...

Re: 26X closed cell matress pads?

If your old one can't handle it, Singer makes a Heavy Duty machine that is much cheaper ($200ish) than the Sailrite one.

Re: New to sailing need boat advice

If the existing engine runs well I wouldn't worry about replacing it, put a fresh impeller in the lower unit and run it. Put the money toward new sails, sails more then about 10 years old are junk IMO.

Re: Can't Raise Centerboard

When you're not on the water you have to lift it up manually and support it while you cleat it. The keel floats and doesn't have much leverage unlike the old Ventures that had the cast iron keel and the heavy duty winch.

Which wedge?

I'm repowering to a 90hp Johnson. I've read that it makes sense to install transom wedges to increase the amount of down trim angle available. Which should I get?

Re: DIY Tandem Axles

What are the specs on the existing MacX trailer axle if I wanted to add a second? I live right by a Northern Tool, are the axles they cary good? If you do not mind me being lazy, which Northern Tool would you add to compliment the existing? Mine failed last year and I was able to get a new axle cus...

Re: 2 stroke oil tank mounting

Is it just attached to the floor? If so did you have to trim the cushions?

2 stroke oil tank mounting

I’m going to be repowering my 96 26x with a 2 stroke Johnson 90 hp. It has a separate oil tank that I need to mount somewhere. Any suggestions or ideas as to where it would work from?

Re: Wx forecasts

I use the windy app. It comes up with different predictions than sailflow and seems to be more accurate in my area.

26X center board split

My 1995 26X center board was split down the middle on the leading edge. It was 2 sections about each 1.5 feet long. It I'm not sure if it's from freezing or erosion of the substrate. I was looking at the fill and drainage holes and it looks like it would retain an inch or so of water when retracted ...

mainsail attachment to mast or boom?

My new main sail tack is attached at the old style J hook on the boom fitting like my old sale. It's a loose footed sail but when I put tension on at the clew on the boom it doesn't pull on the tack attachment it looks to be pulling on the lowest sail slug. There is a crease in the sail back to the ...

Re: De-powering to 10-25 hp ob motor?

I have been running a 25 hp. since I purchased my boat 3 years ago, PO installed. I can run for two days on 6 gallons of gas. Top speed is about 10 knots with ballast empty. I never empty the ballast and I can still run at 8 knots with about 3/4 throttle. I have an older 3 cylinder Suzuki which I w...
