mainsail attachment to mast or boom?

My new main sail tack is attached at the old style J hook on the boom fitting like my old sale. It's a loose footed sail but when I put tension on at the clew on the boom it doesn't pull on the tack attachment it looks to be pulling on the lowest sail slug. There is a crease in the sail back to the ...

Re: De-powering to 10-25 hp ob motor?

I have been running a 25 hp. since I purchased my boat 3 years ago, PO installed. I can run for two days on 6 gallons of gas. Top speed is about 10 knots with ballast empty. I never empty the ballast and I can still run at 8 knots with about 3/4 throttle. I have an older 3 cylinder Suzuki which I w...

Re: Rudders up when motoring

With the 30hp it will do 9.5 mph with the ballast in and about 13-14 with it empty, never planes though. It just will not hold a heading at all without at least one rudder down. My thought was maybe the lower unit is smaller on the 30hp than the intended 50-60hp that is intended to be there and does...

Rudders up when motoring

The owners manual says that you should have the rudders up if going over 5 MPH. I've tried and have a hard time maintaining a heading, it maybe because I have a 30 hp engine but I'm not sure.

The OEM trailer seems to be sub standard
It's 24 years old, so it certainly doesn't owe me anything, it could have been made better that's for sure. Of all the previous issues I've read about I hadn't read about this one.

Re: Stiff steering

My steering system is too loose in my new Mac26x. My previous Mac 26x had nice stiff steering that allowed me to leave the helm.to attend to other business as required for single banding.. With my current Mac26x, if l let go of the wheel for a fraction of a second it leans into a HARD starboard tur...

OEM trailer axle failure

My `95 X trailer axle end cap plates rusted from the inside and snapped after hitting a pot hole. The actual axle beam was in great shape, but the plate that the trailer spindle was welded onto rusted from the inside. I think it was open from the bottom and was basically 3/4" inboard of the brake pl...

Re: Rub rail restorer?

Mine cleaned up with some acetone pretty well. It had a lot of buildup on it, not sure what it was, but it came off and looked black again after some scrubbing.

Re: A starter boat?

Likely because it's not a keel boat and it easily goes on a trailer... Which are the reasons I like them. Next time a hurricane is coming let him know your "starter boat" will be safe at home on a trailer and good luck with his keel boat after it gets washed away.

I forgot to precise my boat is an X. I have no idea how the liner is on a D but I am pretty sure it is not possible to access the space between the deck and the liner on an X or M... My BWY kit turning block at the base of the mast is mounted to the deck with large self taping screws. The other tur...

Re: Roller bunk trailer

I've found the macbump useful when doing the bottom paint. Mine slid forward the perfect amount to get the spots where the bunks were.

Mac 19s have ballast tanks? Or just a heavy swing keel?
They are very similar to an X with water ballast.

If the sails are that old I would look at new ones, especially the main.

Re: FYI, Humminbird upgrade to Helix 5" Chirp DI GPS install on X

The intended one was too high IMO but it worked ok. I got the shorter adapter so it was even with the top of the wheel while seated. An added benefit is when I remove the GPS when the boat is tied up the main sheet line nicely sits on the ram mount ball on the top of the pedestal.

Re: FYI, Humminbird upgrade to Helix 5" Chirp DI GPS install on X

I have a Helix 5 Chirp GPS G2 on my :macx: as well. It seems to work great, the only issue I've had is remembering how to dim it after dusk. It's easy to do just, finding the page in the settings is a pain. I installed mine with a ram mount kit. It works good but the kit came with a 5 or 6" riser, w...
