Re: 14.7kn under Sail?

Roger also said you can do 20mph with a 50HP on a 26X, and that the M was faster than the X, and that you can also tow the boat with a Ford Crown Vic. All just as much BS. I used to work with a guy who towed his 28' pontoon boat from town to the lake with a retired cop car Crown Vic. That looked pr...

Re: Bunk cover replacement

I doubt my limited trailer usage would be much of a test. Other that maybe 8 months of UV exposure, since I splash it once.

Bunk cover replacement

I recently replaced the bunk carpet on my trailer with some of the hard plastic covering. I found that it went on easier than carpet and looks way better. As an added benefit when I pulled my boat out of the water for the season, the boat Mac Bump worked again and easier then ever. For several years...

This is not a new topic. I'm sure a deep enough search will supply an answer.
Finding search terms to locate that is the kicker though.

Furler line diameter with 150% Genoa

Any one have a link to some line that is compatible with a CDI furler when using a 150% genoa on a 26X? I purchased new line from BWY that is 3/16" a couple of years ago, but it over fills the drum and won't unfurl the last three feet or so with out going forward and forcing it. It's visually t...

Re: Macgregor 26X or 26M as a motor cruiser only - which one to choose?

I would look for a power boat. X&M's aren't really good sailboats or powerboats, they fit in the middle because they're compromises of both. They aren't comfortable at anchor and a proper power boat will work better in every regard if that's all you want to do. If you plan to tow it to FL buy a ...

Re: Do I Really Need /Want a Jib Halyard?

I use it to put the sail cover on when I'm lowering the mast to protect it for storage or if I'm going to leave the boat for a month or longer. I would keep it for that reason at least.

Re: High speed motoring ballast empty or full

My X has a 90hp and I don't motor without ballast at WOT with the mast up very much. With the mast down it will hit about 24-25 knots (29mph) a little less with it up. It seems a little twitchy with the mast up and the only time I would be going fastish (not that fast) like that would be playing aro...

Re: raising 26m mast without raising pole

In my 20's when I had a Mac 25, it didn't come with a poll. I just loosened the shrouds as loose as the links would go and walked the mast up. Then had another person connect the for and aft stays. It's a little wobbly as it goes up, but I never had any issues.

Re: Found some rot and a soft spot.

Pretty sure that's structural foam core, not "sponge". One brand name is Divinycell. Foam would be best, but you can all so bond in some endgrain balsa and then glass over the balsa.

Re: Removing velco adhesive, tips?

Peerco 321 is the best option if you are removing adhesive from an easily damaged substrate like vinyl etc. It's best to apply and cover with plastic wrap so it doesn't dry out, after 30 minutes it will scrape right off.

Re: New engine

I had a 30hp Yamaha on mine when I bought it, and it was less than impressive. I think it topped out at 11 knots, which really defeated the purpose of the 26x. To me the whole point of the power trailer sailor is the larger engine that can power you out of bad weather before it gets to you. I instal...

You should see the look of disgust on their face when I blast past them with my 90hp and a full ballast tank. Lots of spray and speed :D

Re: Lower Potomac river with a Mac 25? Any thoughts or experiences to share?

As I mentioned previously in another post about your boat, we keep our X in Colonial Beach in a slip. You will have massive barnacle growth mid summer if you don't have proper bottom paint. I used cheap paint once and seriously regretted it when I hauled out in the fall. It's pretty cheap in the Col...

Re: Mystery Modded MacGregor 25

I am biased towards dry sailing for cost and for the hull. I went with VC performane epoxy on the bottom so it can sit in the water a bit but Lake Anna did stain it a bit and it won't prevent growth if we move to the Potomac. The place I keep mine at has been about $85 per month in a slip at Coloni...
