Bungee is the way to go. I have had the same ones on for the past 7 years. A trick I learned from Sail mag article "Thing the Work" is to coat the cords with plain old sunscren. The UV in the sunlight deteriorates bungee very quickly without. Here at 5000ft altitude the UV is killer, but t...

I have the same unit and love it. After a bad experience with slugs on my brothers O-Day I am going stick with the bolt rope, for now. Mostly because the wind tends to be kind of gusty here. I recommend flaring the top end of the feed slot a couple of inches and placing the pre-feeder as high as pos...

motor mount

I have a 97 X and had the same problems and more. The bracket was upside down as Chip said. My motor Nissan D50 was also to low or about 2.5 inches from the cavitation plate to the hull bottom. Because the previous owner  installed it himself I had to redrill and fill to raise the motor 1.5 in...

LED part number and details

Sorry for the delay in responding I built the new navigation lighting using Luxeon III LEDs I used the 4 red led LXHL-PD09 and 3 green LXHL-PM09 for the bow, and 3 white LHXL-PW09, which are1 watt lambertian diodes. I soldered the surface mount LED to a hobbyist PWB in serial with a 33 ohm LED and a...

I just replaced my navigation lights with Luxon LEDs. The trick to limit thermal runaway is to limit the power to less than half the LED rating. I used 4 red LEDs (port) and 3 green (starboard) in series with a 33 ohm current limiting resistor for each string. Four reds have the same total voltage d...

Lucker than most

The Admiral can sail well perhaps better than me, but she tends to hog the helm :x . With the exception of hefting the mast and backing the trailer there isn’t anything she cannot do. Once when the Hobie blew off shore with no one on board (because I forgot to tie it) She took a windsurfer out...

sea anchor

Ray, Some additional information types of sea anchors. There are drogues instead of a single sea anchor. The drogues consist of a long string of small sea anchors in series. It is claimed that they are less likely to fail than a single chute an supposedly easier to retrieve. Personally I do not have...

When it too calm to sail, fly balloons. When it it too windy to fly, then sail. Besides launching or landing a balloon is like flying a 9000 square foot spinaker. It can definetly spill your beer! :D

As far as dangerous fuel goes, good old gasoline is the most dangerous. It is followed and not too closely by propane, then alcohol. Gasoline is worst because the vapors are heaver than air and can also pool in low areas. Gas has a much wider ignition bandwidth than propane (fuel to air mixture that...

Kevin,
Very nice work. I have a question about how you attached it to the liner.
Is it hung form the upper liner lip or attached to the lower or both :?:
Thanks

Spinnaker

I have a spinnaker, but have only used it once so far, and loved it. The same day there was a “Blade 16” catamaran flying one also. He could launch and retrieve it easily solo, using a “mid-pole snuffer”. After examining his set up, I’m convinced I can do the same with my asymmetric. I am just about...

Turbo Mods

I think a spinnaker launch bag would be an ideal turbo modification. This would make it so you can launch and douse the spinnaker from the cockpit single handed. I saw the system on a Blade 16 catamaran last weekend. I have been researching designs to see if I can fit one on my X. I guess I want my ...
