Re: Quick Release Tensioner on Genoa?

The lever modification has been done on scores or even maybe hundreds of boats and I have yet to hear of any negative comments or issues with the rigging. I did it on my 2006 :macm: . One of the best mods I did. Just keep up with inspecting your rigging as usual.

Re: Ducking under bridges

Did it once near Marathon FL to save about a six mile transit to they main channel on the seven mile bridge. It can be done in calmer waters singlehanded but I waited till I was moored to put the mast back up. May have put the mast back up after crossing under the bridge if I wasn't alone. I have th...

Re: Holy City (Charleston, SC) Mac Roundup

Second week of October sounds good. I like the idea of parking away from the boat ramp on private property. I am interested in attending.

Re: Marine Airconditioning Installation?

Phil, I installed a Mermaid 16,500 BTU Air conditioner/heater on my C34 back in 2005, it is quite doable and I am sure you would have no problems with the install. Remember to add the cost of a good big strainer, salt water pump, two thru hulls and some ductwork to the price. The strainer, pump and...

Installing a new rubrail on a 26M

Anyone have a special technique in setting the rubrail to the point of the bow? Mine is spreading due to the sharp radius at the point of the bow and I have 5 spring clamps holding the rail against the hull joint. Anyone else had any problems installing a new OEM rubrail? Guess I could call the fact...

Re: Problem with Gel coat repair

It could be your hull to deck joint leaking. I damaged my 26 :macm: on the fwd stbd bow section and had it repaired. Before I put the rubrail back on, I leak tested it and found the sealant between the deck and hull had failed due to the hull flexing. I put some 5200 sealant on that area and the lif...

Re: Marine A/C installation

OK, let me bare my soul. I beached last month and was stuck on the sand at Short Key while mostly everyone left. (John, not like you beached! ) If I could have pumped my ballast tank, I could have floated off in short order, This seems like a way to kill two birds with one stone. At the most,...

Re: Marine A/C installation

I envision putting in a 4" access port in the top of the ballast tank near the vent to be able to access the baitwell pump on the bottom of the ballast tank. Installation inside the tank would do two things: 1) make a through hull penetration for pump suction not needed and 2) allow me to pump the b...

Re: Marine A/C installation

The inexpensive bait well pumps are not self priming and need to have their suctions submerged. I would only use the A/C on the hook with a generator or in a marina. My ballast pumping was geared towards being able to remove it to refloat the boat earlier if I ever get stuck again on the bottom when...

Marine A/C installation

I am contemplating installing a 6.5K Mermaid reverse cycle unit that I recently aqquired (for almost free) in my 2006 :macm: . I want to minimize underwater hull penetrations and am considering placing a 500 gph live baitwell pump or similar inside the ballast tank that would pump seawater cooling t...

Re: cumberland island trip

St Marys downtown waterfront has a better launch ramp and more ammenities (fuel, water, ice, better security and free parking). It is about 5 miles to Cumberland sound and probably a bit closer unless your planning to run up to Plum Orchard. You can tie up overnight at the St Marys dock if space is ...

Re: Florida Cruise for Trailer Sailers late Dec.

Dave B,

Is it necessary to have a dink? Or can you just anchor in calf deep water and walk ashore? I have a hard dink and motor but wandering if I don't need to mess with it.

Re: Pirate Sail 2011 Movie

Looks like good flat seas, not like the 4-6 swells we had going into Mayport on JMGT 2011.
