Re: East coast source for trailer axles & axle parts

Seadoc, I have been very happy with Champion Trailers. They offer great advise if you need it. I was able to do upgrades such as installing a second axle and SS disc brakes myself. https://www.championtrailers.com/. Good luck!

Re: Clanging Swing-Keel

I use Magma R10702 Rock N Roll Stabilizer suspended from the boom. I secure the boom outward as much as possible to increase leverage. Works extremely well. You could use a second one suspended from a whisker pole.

Re: Towing my inflatable tender - concerned about the prop

I recommend a polypropylene towline which floats. When docking, getting a mooring or anchoring, pull the dinghy tight to the transom. In my early days of sailing I had a cheap PVC dinghy. Forgot to tie the dinghy tightly to the transom, so when I backed-up during anchoring, the towline got wrapped a...

Re: Advice on buying 26M/X

Hi Firemanbill, We have a 2001 X and love it. We live in MA close to the border with CT. Our plan is to sell our X at the end of the season this year or early next year as we are close to retirement and plan to go sailing full time on a bigger boat. Please send me a PM if you are interested. Best re...

Re: Cape Cod marina recommendations

I suggest you eliminate Chatham. It is a very dangerous harbor with strong currents and shifting sands. It's fun to watch it from near the Chatham Light house. Great town to visit though.

Re: A point of sailing

This works for me when changing from running with wind to heading into the wind): 1. Start motor and put in forward, rpm depending on conditions 2. Take in foresail 3. Turn slowly into the wind (direction opposite of main sail position; i.e. main sail to port, turn to starboard) 4. Slowly bring in m...

Re: Rockland, Maine, Ramps?,Parking?

Hi Bob, We have launched there many times and left truck and trailer there for up to two weeks. Never had a problem. We typically grab a mooring at Rockland Landings Marina. They have nice showers and water/gas to top-off tanks. Somehow it always seems to be mid-80ies when we are rigging and de-rigg...

Re: Chinook's Great Loop

When you get to Montreal this summer the Pointe Claire Yacht Club is offering free dockage for you if you need it.
This yacht club is only 50 min by bus and metro from down-town Montreal, including some short walks. Great city to visit.

I discovered same years ago. Drilled 4 small holes in the bottom. No more water. I would not worry about it.

Re: Rocna anchor

After about 10 years without dragging, I finally dragged this summer while anchored in Cuttyhunk in very soft mud and grass. I stayed put nicely during 20 hrs of 20-25 mph wind. I felt comfortable going to shore for a hike. When we returned after 2 hrs, Vrijheid was tied to my neighbor's Pearson 36....

Re: Rocna anchor

I have done various cruises on Penobscott Bay: launch in Rockland followed by island hopping to Acadia and back. I use a 22 lb Lewmar Horizon Claw Anchor http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|2276108|2276109|2276110&id=66359 . With a 30 ft chain, this anchor sets perfectly in the mud bottoms ...
