Re: Sold my 50, buying the Etec90

We've fitted a Suzuki 4 stroke 15hp c/w high thrust prop to our 26X....more than adequate....anything much above 1/2 revs is a waste. One thing though the first longer trip ie 11days and burnt out the charging system....Suzuki claim its just for recharging the start battery and some nav lights but ca...

Re: Golf cart batteries?

BartMac - are you saying you would not have dedicated start batteries? Just all deep cycle? My 2 batteries (marine start and a deep cycle house battery) are 4 years old and not holding charge well. I am considering replacing both with 2 large deep cycle. I have an emergency jump start pack that I h...

Re: constantly rounding up in fresh winds

Often discussed....weather helm......new sails are good but the single biggest improvement was to check and adjust the mast rake....we had to shorten our front stay beyond its normal adjustment by fitting another mast hound?? up about 65mm to allow for some adjustment at the other end...All good now...

Re: The perfect launch - almost

Whilst nearly launching last year...there was the sound of an outboard and a bang and a scream....2 fellows in a small speedboat had gone the wrong side of a marker and launched their boat over just submersed rockwall.....cut a long story short....we stopped our launch and instead got in our inflata...

Re: opinions on flexible solar panels.

We have a 80 watt semi flexible panel on our sliding hatch of our 26X...seems to work fine and also have 6 x 20watt panels on a curved tower across the rear...so 200 watts.....BUT..... not any where near the expected output because of various factors ie angle shade etc etc.I'd like to get more on th...

Re: engel freezer questions

Having played with various Engel fridges and the like....one tip....fan forced ie in the fridge....makes for a great improvement of air flow and thus the thermostat picks up variation much quicker.Found our upright 12 fridge would take 20-30 mins to kick in again after opening but with a small compu...

Re: running boards amidships?

We had the same problem....dodger and front bimini get in the way of going forward....so we now roll up our V berth bedding and go inside to go forward thru the front hatch

Re: Diesel outboard

Whilst not of the innovative design as per the above post....Volvo did diesel outboards....looked at one that had been in storage for 20 years unused but decided to much of a gamble....and after posting this googled and found a number of manufacturers....my interest was more to do with fuel safety a...

Re: Mini dodger trailering questions

I have made a dedicated cover for our dodger which goes over it in the down position...it also goes over the hatch...making it more water proof for trailering especially the leading edge ....actually made the cover prior to the dodger being fitted as at 80-90km on the road the hatch didn't seal real...

Re: Crack in captain seat hinge

Leaving the seat off was my first mod.....but the hinge is still there...could not reach the nuts easily so left the hinge just in case.Found the captain seat removal really opened up the cockpit given the cluttered nature with the steering binnacle and all

Re: Pressurizing the interior to find leaks

Finding water entering either a boat or a camper is a pain.....just found a wet area in our camper and believe it or not but found water travelling thru the outside insulation of electrical wiring ie twin flex with a black outer from our solar panels was acting like pipe :D :D

Re: Pressurizing the interior to find leaks

Hat off to a brilliant idea :D :D :D

My rub strip was damaged so removed it and cleaned all goop and regooped....not because of a leak but found the general state of the join to be wanting...fitted a new rub strip....looks good and don't think water is getting in there!!
