Nice and easy

Heaving to is easy and very convenient in the M26X in most conditions. I haven't had to endure any really bad weather in this M26X since I have the NOAA weather radio and radar tuned in. However, based on experience with other boats, if seas were over 4 ft. on swells of more than 10 ft., I'd choose ...

Hard pricd to pay

That seems a high cost for a brief 10mph rush. Hopefully you learned a bunch of lessons and won't repeat this experience deliberately. One of the biggest ones is in heavy weather keep things as simple as possible when alone on the boat. Singlehanding with that kind of weather forecast in very shallo...

Getting back aboard

When single handing or with crew that doesn't know how to rescue you, wear life vest, use motor kill cord except when sailing. Trail 60 ft. of poly (floating) line, and plan not to use it by using a harness clipped to something solid or a jack line where you are working., I have enough friction in t...

Never an old timer

Researched everything I could find on the web and elsewhere before buying my X in October of '97 and joining in several forums, some of which died, migrated or evolved. I've joined this and every other possibly related cruising or sailing board many different times. Changing names each time with cha...

prop wash...

This discussion would be a lot more meaningful if people who favor having the motor in the water would state if the prop is free to spin or is still locked in gear. I'm going to try it both ways my next sail over a measured course and see if it makes any difference in speed (per GPS) on any point of...

bird vanes

I had my windex broken twice last year. Just installed the newer 15" with anti bird spike from West Marine, last month. It works. Now the critter roosts on my folded bimini with very muddy feet, and pukes and poops everything from old fishing lures and line to scales and bones onto the console, helm...

cheated

If my fully loaded M26X can go 15 knots with a 50 hp Merc, then a boat ten times the length with 75 times the horsepower should be able to go ten times as fast... 150 knots, right? I think someone got cheated.... not to mention it doesn't sail.... :-)

better impellers now.

In the sixties and seventies I had to replace the impeller about every three years whether salt or fresh water use. Not much wear on them but sitting idle the blades stayed bent and eventually lost their flexibility until they broke. I've seen hubs with all but one blade gone. My '97 Merc 50 has the...

rivets

Making cockpit cushions next spring will be my next project for the boat. On other projects over the years I've found velcro to be fantastic in cooler temps but undesireavle in or outdoors for anything above 100 degrees. It will also degrade over time if left in direct sunlight, as when you remove t...

pix are often relative

Pun intended. One person's cute is another person's ugly. Maybe cute pix belong in separate forum, so we would know they are not informational, educational or problem solving reagarding our sailboats and could avoid them easily if desired.
