Re: proper outboard and propeller mac26X

I have an X with a Yamaha F50 (a 1998, carburated, 4-cylinder unit). I don't know the exact measures of the propeller, but the engine is labelled "High Trust". I can achieve 5.000 rpm. I might even get some more, but I've never tried... I don't want to break the engine. The highest speed I've achiev...

Re: buying mcgregor 26x

I have owned a Mac 26X for the last five years and I love it. By the way, I bought in in Valencia and sailed it to Barcelona, that's 180 nautical miles. I think the Mac is a wonderful coastal cruiser. It can do some open water cruising too, I know Macs who have sailed from Florida to he Bahamas or f...

Re: outboard yamaha 50 fetl efi 2009

I have a carburated 50HP Yamaha and it reaches almost 5.000 rpm. I don't know the size or pitch of the propeller.

Re: wind and wave limits for mac 26X

When I sail single-handed, I usually unfurl the genoa but don't raise the main sail... Just with Genoa: How do you realize a tack??? I try to do it when I have enough speed... I wait to change the genoa to the new lee side, because if you keep in in the "old" lee side for a while, it pushes the bow...

Re: wind and wave limits for mac 26X

I have sailed with a 17 knots wind, two-people crew and full sails up (mainsail and genoa)... the Mac behaved beautifully. When I sail single-handed, I usually unfurl the genoa but don't raise the main sail... two thongs is the maximum I can control simultaneously: helm and genoa. This way I have sa...

I don't know if he still reads this forum, because he has also gone the "larger boat route", but Declan had a roller mainsail in his 26X...

Re: Need to make a decision on make of motor

My :macx: has a 50 HP 4-Stroke Yamaha. It has 17 years and works very well, I've never had a serious problem with it since I bought the boat 4 years ago. My previous boat had a VERY old 2-Stroke Evinrude... it finally died (well, it could still be repaired, but it was not economical) after 33 years ...

Re: New Mac Owner

I think there's a serial Mad Mac modifier on the loose. Doesn't sound as bad as one a few weeks/months ago on craigslist or something like that. Weird fins added to the hull just above the water line, PVC piping running along the decks extra stations and all sorts of weird stuff no one seems to be ...

Re: Best. Boat Name. Ever.

A friend of mine told me a funny history: in his homeport, there was a gipsy fisherman who oned a small boat. In Spanish, gipsy is "gitano", so the guy named his boat "Gitanic" ... My previous boat was red and I called it "Escabetx" ("Pickle" in Catalan) . My :macx: is called "Seitó" ("Anchove" in C...
