Re: Airhead compost toilet install

There's a nice little article about the Airhead toilet in the September/Octoner 2011 issue of Good Old Boat magazine . Not that it matters overly much to me way down here in Virginia, where a leaky Walmart bag over an old mayonnaise bucket might do, but I wonder if having such a zero discharge head ...

Re: Do it yourself sail track cleaner

My dad used to run a tampon up the track. Yikes ! Have more dire words ever been written than, " My dad used to run a tampon up the track. "? Still, who could deny its cost effective efficacy? Are YOU man enough to run a tampon up your track? http://media.techeblog.com/images/tampon_survival.jpg

Re: Where to find a used Macgregor 25 trailer in California?

Here in Florida trailers under 2000 lbs do not have a title just a registration by weight. You might look at trailers for other types of boats, I got a Flats/Bass boat trailer that fit the 26M with adjusting the bunks and front winch and stop. Indeed. An online search for something like "Macgregor ...

Re: Where to find a used Macgregor 25 trailer in California?

Well, this dual-axle "BOAT TRAILER FITS BOAT UP TO 30'FT. - $1800" beast currently up on Craigslist and possibly located in Stockton might be worth a look-see. It is also up there on the Sacramento listings as "TRAILER "FOR BOAT " UP TO 29'ft. - $1850" , so there's clearly some wiggle room on the pr...

Re: Freeze, thaw. Repeat for 6 months

I'll give the opposing view: you're screwed. Sleep with an umbrella for a season as you re-bed 300 fasteners..... :P Fret not Dave ! I expect that may be just some primitive "Venture character-building ritual" topcat's describing. Those old salt Venture sailors have pine-tarred bowlines in their pu...

Re: Freeze, thaw. Repeat for 6 months

So, how badly do you think I've pooched my poor SeaSaw by being too lazy to tarp it this winter? The furling jib and lines may survive OK, and, worst case, I can replace them in the spring. I'm worried about the glass in the bucket. There's surely plenty of tiny invisible cracks on the seats (esp t...

Re: Tech question, small engines

Henceforth you might try running a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel, say a ½ ounce per gallon, in addition to the 2-stroke oil, to gently ease out carbon buildup in the combustion chamber and piston ring seats. Over time it might help you get a better "burn" and compression once she's warmed up...

Re: Tech question, small engines

I have a 2 stroke mini generator that uses a 24 to 1 gas oil mix. Uhhggg. Smokey. What if I used the XD oil? Is it magical enough that I could reduce the oil mix to 50 to 1? Ix Coming back from vacation once in the mid-'80s and broke as hëll, the trip cut quite a bit shorter than I'd have liked 'ca...

Re: New powersailor

I wonder how much they'll run? Not that I would buy one or anything...hull, even an M was a bit too rich for my taste when I was shopping around, and so I contented myself with a nice X (though I have grown to prefer it--and not just by virtue of necessity). Thing is, I could well see how something ...

Ahhh...The long-awaited return of the ultra-sexy Nuva Yachts marque to these forums, with their patented Viagrunt TM Mast Raising System . Who wouldn't want some...Er...one? For PFDs you'd almost be obliged to use those old fashioned ring-shaped life buoys instead of the square butt pad Type IVs, if...

Re: I have damaged one of my rudders

Just FYI, our Ozzie Mac colleague "Davilia7" has put up a great little video on YouTube at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3dzaOEMyqrQ showing his expert repair of his own 26M rudder. Even if you buy a new one, it couldn't hurt to have a spare, right? I adore his other helpful videos too...lot of hand...

Re: Adding Solar

The questions that occur to me now are: Any ideas on the best way to mount the PV panel to the top of the dodger? I was thinking about buying some sunbrella and sewing in four folded-over strips in loop form near each corner, then using a small amount of 1/8" line to attach the four corner-grommets...

First thing I did was click on "donate" and make a contribution. This is a really great site and the moderators put in a lot of thankless effort. Same here. I'll admit I experienced a warm fuzzy gushy feeling all over when I got that email update just now about some thread update or other......
