Re: Washington DC Macgregor Sailors

For those looking for a berth on the Occoquan for what's left of the 2015 sailing season, albeit with no launch ramp, there's a fellow named Dave who's been posting on the local DC craigslist for several months hoping to sell his condo-slip berth at the Fairfax Yacht Club. I contacted him about perh...

Re: chain forerun 6mm / 8mm?

Re: Washington DC Macgregor Sailors

Bit late to the party, but as a noobie 2001 26X owner in Woodbridge, Virginia, I am wondering if anything ever came of this notion of a Washington, D.C. Macgregor Sailors Group . Are there T-Shirts? Secret handshakes? Seriously though, I might be PMing a couple-few of you directly, just to ask if I ...

Re: Helpful Restoration Book for Venture and Other Mac Owner

Good book and he bares his soul about mistakes he made along the way. There are a few things he is a bit unclear about...and he does rankle one of my pet peeves....cinder blocks as jack stands. No no no. Agreed: cinder blocks bad. Harbor Freight jackstands are cheap and go on sale often enough to m...

Re: Fortress FX-11 and Guardian G-16 parts compatible?

We went by WM and it is a small WM and they did not have anything but west marine anchors. Forgot to post, that we did check but no help. Well, thanks for looking into it! My WestMarine store didn't have one on display either. I might take up catigale's suggestion and start buttonholing folks who m...

Re: Fortress FX-11 and Guardian G-16 parts compatible?

Well, I guess I'm overdue on my monthly appeal for anyone out there with a Guardian G-16 anchor to take a couple of photos of its crown, so that I might see whether or not it may be reasonably compatible with their more upscale FX-11. I went by my local West Marine, one of their smaller outlets, and...

Helpful Restoration Book for Venture and Other Mac Owners

Ahoy there ! I'm a newbie Mac 26X owner who just popped in here to the Venture Discussion Area to give a plug for Brian Gilbert's great little book, Fix it and sail: Everything you need to know to buy and restore a small sailboat on a shoestring (Camden, ME : International Marine, 2006) [ISBN 0-07-...

Re: Another Noobe!

Congratz! For what it's worth, if you want to really milk that whole dragonfly motif, Harbor Freight's got a S olar Dragonfly LED String Light - 10 Piece on sale right now for just $8.99 ($7.99 with a coupon) that you can festoon the rigging with. We got a set for our own recently-acquired and as-ye...

Re: '96 26X Questions and advice.

If you've got that marina just down the street, I don't see why you wouldn't want that 26X...or your "Admiral-apparent" for that matter. The price is just a few hundred more than what I paid recently for a 2001 26X in what I'd guess might be comparable shape, though yours seems to have some goodies ...

Re: Fortress FX-11 and Guardian G-16 parts compatible?

I do not have an answer - but you have really raised my curiosity. Why? Is your FX-11 broken? Spare parts are available. Or you could just call Fortress 800-825-6289. Allow me to sate your curiosity, though it doesn't help me one iota. In fact, it might well do the opposite. Still, you have been th...

Re: Favorite Smart Phone Apps?

I'm a relative newbie to sailing as such, but my hunch (and it IS only that at this point) is that the freebie interactive cruising guidebook Active Captain (see: https://activecaptain.com/ ) will be a "must have", if only for the local information about anchorages, docking, best approaches to trick...

Fortress FX-11 and Guardian G-16 parts compatible?

Would anyone happen to own or have actual visual access to both an FX-11 and a Guardian G-16 model anchor, both 7 pounders made by Fortress, who can tell me if the "crown" (the bottom piece where both the flukes and crossbar slide into) might be be interchangeable or could perhaps be made compatible...

Re: After you first got your Mac, what was the first thing y

I'm actually still waiting to be able to legally pick up my 26X, purchased more than a month ago, and haul her home. The boat title's all squared away, but the previous owner never got a bill of sale or title for the trailer from the guy he got it from. Trailer titles may not have been a required th...

Ahoy!

Well, I finally got my hands on a 2001 Macgregor 26X yesterday, my first sailboat of any kind, so thought I should come on by here and introduce myself and the boat before pummeling each and every one of you of with my incessant newbie questions. I am in Woodbridge, Virginia, just a hop down the roa...
