Re: Running Lights dead

Just so you know, my experience was that the original poor wiring job was complicated by owner improvements to the point that it was almost unworkable. I just used the old wires to pull modern wires, and then replaced any questionable lights with the modern version. For some reason having all of the...

Re: Venture 222 knockdown?

I just finished sailing lessons in Monterey Bay in 30, 34, and 38 footers, much bigger than the C-15 I've been sailing, or the Venture 222 I am working on. The larger boats could heel over quite a bit, but the instructor said they couldn't go over. The last Sunday we sailed, we saw six boats knock d...

Re: Bilge pump

One advantage of a bilge pump is the stream of water (from a automatic switch pump) will alert you to a leak; also, it might buy you time to plug a leak and help empty the water once you've done so.

Re: Does this 19 seem like a good deal?

I think a helm could be a tiller or a wheel. The 19 has a tiller, right?

Re: Venture 222 knockdown?

The manual says that it will self-right if the sails are released to avoid trapping water...anyone try tipping her over?

Venture 222 knockdown?

Friends, after finishing our sailing classes last weekend and seeing six boats knocked down or capsized (three were Hobie 16 or 18s), my sailing partner asked if our Venture 222 could go all the way over. I have researched it a bit, with one stating it will go over, but pop back up if the keel is pi...

Re: Outboard confusing issues

If the diaphragm in the fuel pump is old and brittle, it won't keep up at higher speeds. My brother had a similar problem; someone had tried to siphon gas and lost the hose into the tank. It swelled and softened until it looked like a jellyfish and would cover the fuel exit hole, especially when the...

Transom transducer

If I put the depth transducer on the transom, as on a power boat, will the transom near the centerline always be in the water? Does it lift clear on certain points of sail? I am not very aggressive when sailing...15-20 degrees of heel is plenty for me.

Re: Harbor maneuvers at low tide. SUP PADDLES?

Poling might be your best bet...the hunting/boating catalogs have attachments for the pole end to keep from sinking too far into the mud. You might even get a boat hook/push pole combo.

Re: Pedestal Hatch Mod with Hinge and Latch Lock?

I always wonder about the hasp and lock on my companionway door. It would be easy to rip it off if someone really wanted inside. Does it deter a casual thief from breaking in? There isn't really anything worth stealing for a non-sailor, but some people will steal anything. That said, a hasp and lock...

Re: Good vibrations

So, is that vibration a sign of being in the upper level of performance, topped out, "in the groove"? Or is it an indication of imbalance?

Re: 21 foam replacement??

Yeah, Earl, just measure the space you have to fill and figure out how wide you want your planks and just sandwich them in, the more the better. Mine fill under the cockpit, but can be pushed from port to starboard to open up access to cleat and gudgeon attachments and wiring.

Re: 21 foam replacement??

If I were doing it, I'd buy sheets of styro insulation from a hardware store, cut it into planks, and put it in like slices of bread. Many pieces and thinner ones would make it easy, I would think.
