Re: Adding a tiller

BOAT's learned discourse has led me to a question: his mention that the Mac 26 is a Class B yacht, which I looked up, makes me wonder what the 222's class would be? The ratings originated in 1998, so the 222 was not built with the Class in mind, but....

Re: Busted trailer

It is a simple, if not easy, fix. Etrailer, Trailer Parts Depot, etc., can ship a new axle, complete with hubs, if you like. Measure from the middle of the springs to middle of the springs, count your lugs, and order away. You will have to jack the frame up and to remove the old one and install a ne...

Re: Hard Dodger

Boat, that is remarkably easy. Make your styrofoam mold, paint the outside in Elmers glue, then glass over that. The foam need not be all that smooth, as the FRP will be the exterior. I rebuilt a Hobie Monocat that way, and was pleased with the results.

Re: How old is too old for booze??

More to your point...you won't know until you try it, and I would not do something like gift it or make it my contribution to a party. I have seen thirty-year-old bottles of whiskey be just fine, but five-year-old Bailey's be foul. The fact that it is not a straight spirit might be a problem, but my...

Re: Who wants to go ocean sailing

BOAT, don't you think that riding out a storm that caught you off guard in a swamped boat is better than doing so in a life jacket inflatable?

Re: Monday Never documents mid Atlantic rescue

I was wondering...can anyone explain why the damaged ship's captain thought that staying aboard alone was a good choice? What repair could he do alone that he couldn't do with help? I could not determine how the rudder was broken, but I have read lots of stories about rigging something that works as...

Re: Monday Never documents mid Atlantic rescue

So, who is going to form an alt-group of Mac Five-Percenters? Of course, most of the 5% of less-than-great people probably sail Hunters or Benetaus...

Re: Venture 222 Trailer Vin#???

You might Google the trailer manufacturer; it might show a location where they traditionally mark their trailers. My experience has been stamped plate riveted on, or numbers punched into the trailer itself.

My nearest shot is in Monterey Bay, with another choice based in the Delta. Has anyone taken the ASA class in Monterey?

ASA Sailing Class

Has anyone had any experience with sailing classes, and have any advice or suggestions?

Re: Self-bailing cockpit

Also, have a wooden plug that fits the thru-hull tied to the fitting, in the unlikely event that a break occurs when you are in a position to deal with it.

Re: Self-bailing cockpit

My 222 has a drain in the forward floor of the cockpit flowing out through a hull fitting.
