Re: My POOR 26M

Yeah, it seems logical to have the part that is easiest to fix be the easiest to break. It would be a false economy to have a rudder system so robust that hitting a rock left it intact by ripping off the transom.

Re: My POOR 26M

That brings up a good point: at some point, hitting something, backing into a rock, some disaster, the rudder mechanism is going to fail. Which part is the preferred failure point? As in, easiest to jury-rig, or least damaging to the boat?

Re: Mac 222 - bilge pump?

I was thinking about hooking up a pump in the cabin floor and routing the outflow to the cockpit; it would still drain, and might give a heads-up if I am taking on water while sailing. If we started taking water while in the cabin, the sound of the pump would be heard.

Re: Mac 222 Parked at home - stern support?

It sounds like there might be a need to move the boat forward on the trailer a bit.

Re: New owner cockpit drain question

I have a piece of a floor polishing pad, sort of a thick, less-dense Scotchbrite; lets water drain, keeps out leaves and sticks.

Re: Cabin Fever

Looking at your pics of the deformed hull...think about how much more the boat weighs when filled with several gallons of rain water; flexing at the end of a trailer bunk seems inevitable.

Re: New owner cockpit drain question

My 222 has that set-up, but without the corkscrew in the hose. I have a piece of rolled-up mesh to prevent any upflow without interfering with draining.

Re: Bow Roller & Tool Kit

Could the "not anchor storage" limitation be because there is no hardware included to do it? They might fear that someone will blame them if the anchor is just left balanced on the roller when trailering and come flying off under braking. It looks like it would be easy enough to rig some brackets to...

Re: Guess I have to learn how to sail now.

About your leak: is it possibly a fuel leak into the lower cowling that just runs out a convenient hole? Check your fuel connections in and around the carb. That looks like a couple of old outboards I have that used to leak at the fuel connections. Gasoline makes a better rainbow than oil.

Hmmmm...that is different from mine, but I have no idea which one is stock, or if either one is stock. I will post some pictures later.

Re: new purchase Macgregor 26'

Has anyone done the tie-the-boat-to-a-dock-and-pull-the-mast-down test? Is there a point of no return or are they self-righting?
