Re: Lightning

"What are the odds of lightening striking the gun of someone holding you up, discharging it, hitting the parking brake of your car and being thus run over in your driveway. Assume you have not moved."

Hey, that happened to my buddy's cousin's nephew's friend...I saw it on Facebook!

Re: Ever launch from a lake shore?

Some experience from launching power boats in low-water impound lakes: -back in at an angle, and withdraw at an angle. That way one tire has firmer dirt and you aren't fighting gravity head on. -if it is sloppy, make a skid: about an inch thick, one-foot wide, two-foot long piece of plywood with a h...

Sooo...I guess that means that white-hull Mac owners are smarter than blue-hull Mac owners?

V222 rudder construction?

I want to make my stock rudder into a kick-up version. Is it just wood and fiberglass? It is heavy as, well, it's heavy, and the configuration doesn't look especially streamlined. I might just make a new lower portion and attach it as a kick-up, depending on how complex the cutting process is. Does ...

Re: VHF ANTENNA CONNECTION

Sorry, Boat, I was thinking Seaside, near Monterey, which is more of a trip than from Oceanside.

Re: Soft Transom

You might want to look up HobieCat soft spot repairs; they fairly commonly have areas of delamination that is solved by drilling small holes part way through and injecting fluid epoxy.

Catigale is right on...leaving it partially charged for a long time is a death sentence. Keep it topped off and active at least monthly.

Re: My First Sailboat... Needing knowledge on several issues

The access port is a great idea; wish I'd thought of it back when. I got a piece of thin plywood, cut the same shape as that piece of liner, stained and varnished, and screwed in place, essentially an access panel.

Re: My First Sailboat... Needing knowledge on several issues

Strange...my bow eye was loose and the bolts inside were rusted (not stainless), too. I used a jigsaw to cut an access hole in that piece you show. Drilled two holes, one upper and one lower, then cut an oblong piece out to get my arm in there. I used the sealing gel tape that is advertised on this ...

Re: My First Sailboat... Needing knowledge on several issues

Hey, look around inside the boat (like you wouldn't have already!) and see if there is a pole that fits that forward mast step-looking thing. I'd bet they PO made a gin pole to raise the mast and that was his attachment.

Yeah, but that's the thing about guys who own MacGregors...they are fix-it guys, not toss-it-and-buy-new guys.

Re: 26 D Pop top shocks

Hey all, correct me if I'm wrong...my boat is in storage so I can't check easily, but I think my 222 pop top hinges backward, extending a bit over the cockpit. It looks like the 26D hinges forward. As a 222 owner, the shocks would be mounted aft of the hinges, right?
Thanks!
