Re: Novice Mac 26M Owner/Furler Pin Movement

This is kind of an old topic, but these are very legitimate interrogations for novice sailors so I decided to give you as much answer than I can. Of course, this pin (and the whole forestay connection) is a very important safety feature on any sailboat rigging. First thing first: the design of this ...

Re: mold-mildew

I would suggest you remove all the cushions -as well as anything that can absorb moisture- and store them for winter.

Re: Gelcoat

Thanks Newell, I will check if I can find this product in Saskatchewan.

7 months sailing! That sounds like a dream... We had only 3 and a half months this year. :( Time to move in a warmer place...

Re: Gelcoat

I have had very good matching with the single step gelcoat, have painted and sprayed it. It is the same white that Macgregor used AFAICT. Thanks for your feedback. Do you have a link to the product you purchased? How old is your boat? Mine is a 98 26X and I suspect that the colour is slightly more ...

Re: I hit the dock last week!

Thanks Highlander! I couldn't inspect the damage from close enough but is seems to be almost superficial. The damage seems way smaller than I thought it would be from the shock I felt... Anyway, time for us to pull the boat out of the water (already the end of the season here!) I will soon have a cl...

What is "Macgregor white" exactly? Is there truly a specific tone of white for our boats?

Re: I hit the dock last week!

Ok lets make that Practise, skill and good maintenance are your best protection :D Believe Alexis there always a way when you've learnt from experience .... As crazy as it sound but that's why you needed to hit the dock! Just like I needed to break my mast. I wouldn't trade that experience for anyt...

On my father's old sailboat, we used to have a sort of "banana fender" which was suspended from the bow rail. It was not fancy but very efficient! Unfortunately I never noticed any in stores (neither on boats) in my far away Saskatchewan!

Re: Detachable Spreaders - No tools required

The best MRS I ever saw was an old guy in San Diego with an X boat. He used a block and tackle thing with a triangle shaped plate attached to two baby stays to raise the mast. No gin pole - no winch - and the whole thing fit in a shoe box. It was just a lot of rope with a couple of compound pulley ...

Re: I hit the dock last week!

Where would you install that? ... Wherever I can pretty much guarantee that it will never get marked .... but the rest of the hull will :D ... Everything varies (jetties, level levels) ... so hard to pick a point or line of impact. Practise and skill are your best protection. It would not have help...

Re: Swimming deck, or platform?

Think outside the box a bit, use either side instead of the stern. I was wondering about using the side too, with a boarding ladder like that https://www.westmarine.com/buy/garelick--telescoping-stainless-steel-hook-ladders--P005_158_001_510?recordNum=4 and a sort of floating platform. Not v...

Rubrail protection for winter

Did you protect the gorge between the superstructure and the rubrail from water? I think a precedent owner had put a sort of caulking all around, which now almost completely disappeared. I never noticed any water leaks but I am a bit afraid of freezing water expanding in there during winter. Did any...

Swimming deck, or platform?

The Admiral is in overall very happy with the boat (especially regarding the cabin space) though she told me two things could be better: firstly that she felt pretty far from the water and couldn’t just lazily dip her fingers when the sailing was quiet, secondly that Macgregors don’t have a swim dec...
