Roller furler inspection and maintenance

The winter is definitely back in Saskatchewan, the boat is stored and is waiting for the spring. The time for inspecting and fixing things has come, yay! Would you detect my ironical tone? As much as I like working on my boat while dreaming of sailing, I prefer one thousand times better sailing with...

Re: Our M26 appears in a music video...

Hello bhbell, Nice boat! So we are neighbours! I see you are from Regina, do you sail on Diefenbaker? My 26X was at the foot of the B stairs at Elbow, I purchased it recently so it wasn't officially renamed yet. The hull is all white, she is currently a "no name"... :D Here is some context to our fe...

Re: Did anyone tried an electric outboard?

Honestly, if you have an X (powersailor) I'd only repower with a minimum of 50hp. Probably not that much more expensive. And how do you empty ballast if you can't get up on plane? Otherwise, why own a POWER sailor. But to each his own. Thanks, Russ. Lots of very good points to think about... To ans...

Re: Did anyone tried an electric outboard?

Hello, Lots of good comments here! I am guessing that it is a hot topic! Of course the sail is already there to provide an absolute silence of operation. Electric propulsion should be seen mostly as a way to get in and out the marina elegantly, in my case I sail on a lake and dock my boat in a marin...

Did anyone tried an electric outboard?

Hello, I am wondering if anyone here ever tried an electric outboard? I am dreaming about absolute silence of operations, and not polluting the lake where I sail. Plus, I can see a an advantage with the weight distribution. The cons are obviously top speed and autonomy, but I am already using a smal...

Re: Novice Mac 26M Owner/Furler Pin Movement

This is kind of an old topic, but these are very legitimate interrogations for novice sailors so I decided to give you as much answer than I can. Of course, this pin (and the whole forestay connection) is a very important safety feature on any sailboat rigging. First thing first: the design of this ...

Re: mold-mildew

I would suggest you remove all the cushions -as well as anything that can absorb moisture- and store them for winter.

Re: Gelcoat

Thanks Newell, I will check if I can find this product in Saskatchewan.

7 months sailing! That sounds like a dream... We had only 3 and a half months this year. :( Time to move in a warmer place...

Re: Gelcoat

I have had very good matching with the single step gelcoat, have painted and sprayed it. It is the same white that Macgregor used AFAICT. Thanks for your feedback. Do you have a link to the product you purchased? How old is your boat? Mine is a 98 26X and I suspect that the colour is slightly more ...

Re: I hit the dock last week!

Thanks Highlander! I couldn't inspect the damage from close enough but is seems to be almost superficial. The damage seems way smaller than I thought it would be from the shock I felt... Anyway, time for us to pull the boat out of the water (already the end of the season here!) I will soon have a cl...

What is "Macgregor white" exactly? Is there truly a specific tone of white for our boats?

As crazy as it sound but that's why you needed to hit the dock! Just like I needed to break my mast. I wouldn't trade that experience for anyt...

On my father's old sailboat, we used to have a sort of "banana fender" which was suspended from the bow rail. It was not fancy but very efficient! Unfortunately I never noticed any in stores (neither on boats) in my far away Saskatchewan!
