Re: Holy City (Charleston, SC) Mac Roundup

Bob,

Count me in...if you do it in the Spring. Any way you can come up to the MUCH About next weekend?

Cheers,
Jim

Re: Another New Guy / Is the ballast full?

Many times the ballast tank is not going to be 100% full...probably around 95% or something like that. Does it effect your sailing? No...at least not enough to matter.

But does it slosh around all night making "glug glug" noises while you are trying to sleep at anchor? Yes.

Re: MUCK-About Sail

Yes, there is parking at Sandy Pt State Park...lots of it. There is a charge to get in the park. Make sure you ask about overnight...I think you have to hang a pass from your mirror or something. You can also buy fuel there. They have a fuel dock but it is about $4 per gallon. I stop there all the t...

Erik/Victor,

Where and when are you guys launching?

I hope to motor away from my marina around 4:30ish on Friday.

Pedro, what about you and your crew?

Re: MUCK-About Sail

I have my reservation. DJ (my sailing buddy that was at the JMGT last year) may tag along on this trip...he's gotta get a kitchen-pass from his wife.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Re: Anchor Weight

Erik, You don't need an anchor weight...just do what you did at the Pirate Fest last September... http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q17/c130king/KnotShoreatLowTide.jpg You definitely don't need to worry about dragging an anchor in these conditions...and the winds were 30 mph that night... 8) I'm ju...

Re: Anchor Weight

I am thinking that, for example, if you are anchored in 10' of water and have out 40' - 50' of rode + the 6' of chain (which is what I got) then a 10lb kellet would never make it to the rode/chain juncture...it would pull the rode down and hit the bottom. But the point is well made about 2/3 of the ...

Re: Anchor Weight

It should work great. Especially if you have one of those Danforth "kits" from WestMarine that only come with 6' of chain. I have thought about doing this several times...just never followed through. The key is to keep the "pull" on the anchor and the chain at a very low angle and this should work f...

Re: Halyard Hound Mounting for Jib Cover

I would mount it 18" above the headstay, so it can be used as a spinnaker halyard too. If you're going to use the same parts, and do the same work, might as well gain the benefits. Ditto. For the first 6 years the block for the sock halyard was attached to the same hound as the forestay. I will adm...

Re: Battery connection

I have the 1-2-Both-Off Switch. Both batteries (Group 24 70ah Deep Cycle Interstate Batteries) are wired the "common" post on the switch so which ever battery I choose powers both the start for the motor and everything else in the boat running on DC. No need to have a battery just for starting IMHO....
