Re: Thinking of slipping Mac without bottom paint

a fellow Mac owner keeps his :macx: in an Oceanside slip w/out anti-fouling paint. he has a "bladder" in his slip. Bottomliner or Armored Hull if i remember correctly, initial cost for his :macx: was about $2000. he's been quite happy with it. even with the bladder, however, i believe that...

Re: 26X Stern Rail seats

i'm not sold on the stern seats for the X. the way they are set-up, with the cable/lifeline running across the rear, it looks like access thru the helm is limited (or a hassle). if i owned an M, i would definitely install them. that is, they go with an M and work w/ an M, but not w/ an X. that said....

Re: New 2010 Suzuki DF90A + 26X = BIG Success!

at higher rpm, a large dog eared 4 bladed prop is significantly more drag than a 3 blade...... on the order of 15-20% more drag........easily accounting for 300 to 400 rpm I'll say it again, it cannot be said enough... "The boat is more like a barge than a speed boat". Mac's have been ref...

Re: Epoxy bottom barrier paint - edges

normally the paint stops just above the normal water line, which is an inch or so below the "boot stripe". generally easy to see where that line is if you've kept your boat in water over a week. you can see the scum line. here's a couple of pics on the web... http://liveimages.boatsales.co...

Re: New outboard on the market

What I find disheartening is the small return for the extra horsepower, especially considering the cost of that horsepower. for example: My Etec 50 will max out around 16 kts (18.5 mph) no ballast, though I've gone a few knots faster with favorble tide. Crusing speed would be 13 knots (3/4 throttle...

Re: Problems w/outboards

i had an '02 Suzuki 50hp on my '02 Mac X. it had very low hours. however, i consistently experienced overheating problems when going long distances at WOT. and, WOT only got me to 15 knots. so, i decided to re-power w/ a 90hp in 2004. my choice was to go w/ an Etec 90 or Tohatsu 90. it was Etec -new...

Re: New outboard on the market

Sure I can do 15 knots but I rarely am able to go that fast without inciting violence from the crew getting soaked by the spray. Unless the wind is coming from the right direction, you are not going to be going all that fast, without foul weather gear on. Jim i agree with the wind, the spray, and t...

Re: 3 way battery switch

Are you referring to a 1-2-Both-Off type switch? I installed my BlueSea Systems switch about 7 months ago. Positive wire from Battery one to the post for battery one on the switch. Positive wire from Battery two to post for battery two. Then I put all the other wires on the "common" termi...

Re: New outboard on the market

i long to go the advertised speed if the boat is supposed to go 22 - put an engine on that makes it go that fast i've heard this complaint before... i believe that the advertised speed is based on a "controlled environment" test. that is...one 150# person in a completely empty boat, w/ on...
