1974 Venture/Portager 22 *Pics added*

Postby BreezKnees » Thu Jul 13, 2017 9:44 am

Hello,

I picked up my first sailboat a short while back a badly neglected 1974 Portager 22. Took me a while to find any information on this boat using the hull id numbers and there is literally only a couple of posts I could find on the web referring to "Portager 22" but I came to find this boat was exactly what I was looking for. Essentially a straight copy of the MacGregor Venture 22-2. Looks as though it has sat for 10-15years under a pine tree in someones backyard. I picked her up for a very reasonable $70 :D

I'm trying to figure out this google drive deal but what a PIA... I'll figure out some way to link more than the 3 Photos I was able to post here

As you can see I'm missing alot, Mast, Boom, Genoa Tracks, Stanchions, Standing rigging, Rub Rail..... ALOT but ehhh I have a hull 8) I know a few places/people around the area I should be able to pick up these items for a reasonable price. Currently located in the Metro Detroit/Erie/Monroe Area.

I haven't posted on any forums, usually performance car forums, in awhile but it's great to find such a well rooted forum/knowledge-base for these boats.

Much more to come, Cheers!
Charles

Congratulations on your hull.

You guys are lucky that there is a few recycled boat parts places around, over here there is only a couple and they charge best part of new prices for second hand bits, no bargains to be had.

Posting some pictures after I gave her a bath looks pretty darn good IMO...

I own the same early model boat. You are missing the aluminum rail that joins the two halves and the numerous little bolts that secure it. Those are structural components and it is essential to replace it.

Mine had been stored poorly and water accumulation in the bottom had damaged most of the internal wooden structure. Based on the photos You probably have the same situation. Mine was well beyond what would be worth repairing under normal circumstances.

I needed a boat which is relatively lightweight and shallow draft. Thats the only thing that made the refit worth it.

Very nice. Wouldn't think it's the same boat. 8)
