Galley Table
I am home for the holidays and have a the opportunity to some walnut that could be used for a nice table top. Does someone have the dimensions of the entire galley area or the original galley table size?

Re: Galley Table
Recently while taking everything out of my 26S for cleaning, I found one of the rear berth storage cover panels had a fitting on its underside which I could not quickly figure out (Like one end of a shower rod holder). It also had two holes drilled on the other end which the other panels didn't have. After some looking around the boat, I noted that the galley sink had two unused bolts which matched the hole spacing on the panel, so I figured that it was intended as the table top, with the fitting intended as a receiver for a table leg.
It's way too big for a table top in the little boat, and way too inconvenient to set up when needed. I'm still figuring out what I want to do for a table. Maybe something hinged to the front of the galley sink, covering the access to the under sink area.
To answer your question, the size of that panel is 18 1/2" x 34 1/2"
I'm at my boat and puttering around, if you need any other measurements.

Could you send a picture? Does your boat have the sink located to the center or on the starboard wall?

Re: Galley Table
We faced the same problem at first. I didn't like the idea of anything fixed in location as there is no ideal location on a boat of our size. I came up with the following table that ...Stevenhigbee wrote:I'm still figuring out what I want to do for a table. ...

... sits on either the companionway steps or ...

... the sink area. You can pull it to one side or the other or leave it in the middle. When the meal is done fold it up and place it along the side of the aft berth or somewhere else out of the way. It might not look stable but it is and we have used it for years on every trip, some quite long. It has always worked well and I've never felt the need to make anything else. I can't imagine anything else that would be as versatile.

I usually sit on the port side and tend the cooking on the stove and Dottie is on the starboard side preparing the meal with the table angled that way. She has access to the cooking and eating utensils and the fridge is on that side also. When the meal is ready to eat the table is swung into the middle between us. Works great. The stove and its platform store on the top of the port side storage unit that is between the settee and the V-berth.
More on the construction here for everything you see in the pictures above ....

Sumner,
I saw your version. I like the versatility, but I was wanting to create a version that would store over the sink. As usual...you are the gold standard. It is always good to get your feedback.

Up high over the sink or laying on it? I wouldn't want anything I had to move to use the sink,Orkia wrote:Sumner,

Re: Galley Table
As in everything in a sailboat...everything is a compromise. The original design was a table that swiveled from over the sink to the table position. I am going to try to stay true to the original design.

An obvious advantage to that is if you are using it for desk work, you can move your whole desk out of the way and have your kitchen surface. I don't think it is what I will use, but it's a configuration worth considering. I think I want to have a burner set into the top beside the sink, so that wouldn't be practical for me.The original design was a table that swiveled from over the sink to the table position.

I have purchased a Lagun Table Leg for my cabin table. Not quite sure where I'll mount it yet, need to get in and play with the range of adjustment and motion to decide. Here's a video about the Lagun. https://youtu.be/ndgkur197js

The Lagun Table leg looks perfect. Let me know where you decide to mount it and how well it works. I am definitely considering it.sturmgewehr wrote:I have purchased a Lagun Table Leg for my cabin table. I ended up with a table for 1 made using a $15 cutting board, a pair of hinges, and a cut walking cane:

I'll post photos here when it's done. The tricky part will be to make a wedge shaped piece of wood as a front mounting surface, nothing in the Mac is vertical.Orkia wrote:The Lagun Table leg looks perfect. Re: Galley Table
If I had the skill and tools to make my own fold-up table top, I think I would want to maximize the area to cover the front of the galley when folded down. One might end up with a table for two.
