MacGregor Yacht Club of B.C. 2013 Season

Post by geminiI-Can »

Dear fellow Mac Sailors,

2013 is the 21st Season for the MacGregor Yacht Club of B.C. (MYCBC)

For those that have not heard of the club;

The MYCBC is a boat owners association operating out of beautiful Vancouver, B.C. Canada, and is dedicated to enjoying everything that the MacGregor boating lifestyle has to offer. Whether you own an original MacGregor "Venture" or "Classic", or one of the later "Model-X's" or "Model-M's" ... everyone is welcome to share in the fun and excitement, of being a MacGregor Yacht Club Member.

Our goal is to be the primary local resource for information and education for Macgregor boat owners, as well as a meeting place where members can create new friendships, and wonderful lifetime memories ... both on and off the water. We enjoy being a socially active club that strongly contributes to the British Columbia sailing and boating community, as well as an environmentally responsible organization which supports our club slogan; “Leave Only Wake”.

We currently have 55 MacGregor boats in our membership, and organize at least 12 official events every year that include; 5 Club Cruises, Club Nights, Members Cruises, Confidence Cruise Day Sails, an Annual General Meeting, as well as a Year-End Dinner and Awards Night.

Come sail with us! … in 2013

Gemini has just returned from a fantastic long weekend cruise with MYCBC to Gibsons Landing. Sailing from Rocky Point Boat Launch with Past Commodore Saynomore and new club member Close to You, we navigated the current gates under Second Narrows and First Narrows Bridges through the Vancouver Harbour out to English Bay. We were met by Commodore Sea Shell and Cassiopeia and motor sailed out of the Bay and south of Bowen Island toward Gibsons Landing. Things were a little lumpy and some rain showers did not dampen our spirits. Ten MacGregors from the club had a great 3 days. Saturday night was dinner out at "Molly's Reach", made famous in the TV show "The Beachcombers" in the 70's and 80's. Sunday's highlight was a "Round Keat's Island Sail" featuring passing through the breaking swells in Shoal Channel. I would never have attempted that passage without the fearless leadership of Commodore Glen - especially when I watched Casseopeia disapear into a wave trough in front of us. Only the mast was visible. Once through the rough water we sailed the rest of the way around Keats Island. Catching my first Dungeness crab in my new crab net added a tasty treat to the great Potluck on the dock Sunday night. Monday featured some great sailing in English Bay before heading back through the Vancouver Harbour and on to the trailer. Another great trip and learning experience with MYCBC.

MacRendezvous 2013 May 31 - June 2nd
Union Steamship Marina at Snug Cove Bowen Island
This will be our 21st MacRendezvous this year. We are hoping for another big turn out this year. Other than the sailing, eating and drinking the focus this year will be learning to use your DSC radio. How many of you have used the DSC capability of your VHF radios to make individual calls, MYCBC group calls or position requests? We will be discussing and then practicing making all these types of calls on Saturday morning during our annual instructional sessions. Bring your radio manuals and we will help you get set up to take advantage of all the things your DSC - VHF radio offers. There is still time to join us on this club trip. More information is available at www.mycbc.ca If you are not a member of MYCBC you can join now to take advantage of all the great things the club has to offer.
