Bowsprit Mod

Post by Crikey » Wed Jul 06, 2016 12:14 pm

Almost two years ago I posted about some ideas for re-using parts of my old destroyed mast.

Whick came about as a result of this: http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... =9&t=22087 and originated with this: http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l52 ... ab4b61.jpg

I've just completed the first mod with a fitted and hinged section of my old hardware. I think the hardest part was accessing and removing the bow roller hardware. Right now, the next (and last) thing to be done is fabricate and attach another fore-stay to a second mast hound somewhat above the original. It was important to me to be able to quick release the haul-down as we frequently go in canal locks with other boats. And it also has to be done when using the trailer.
There is the remaining issue of how to adequately release and recover the anchor without fouling the sprit stays and I'm trying to think through that... Primarily, I only want to fly something like a staysail or a stormsail for putting a venturi on the genoa front, but it would work nicely with a spinnaker as well.

So when you Gybe does the spinnaker sheet go around the front of the genoa?

Or

How are the sheets handled?
