Resin
Resin
I am undertaking some minor repairs on my X and my specialist adviser has suggested I ask the following question:
Is the Mac X constructed using EPOXY or POLYESTER resin?
I respectfully ask for a simple answer. Thanks.

Re: Resin
Given Roger's emphasis on maximizing value, it seems highly probable that the resin is polyester, since epoxy is much more expensive.

Re: Resin
Doesn’t matter what the boat is made from, use epoxy. Poly won’t make a good bond (it will fail after a few years) vinyl works a little bit better but epoxy is the only thing you should be using when adding onto cured resin, no matter the composition. Use a thickener like coloidial silica for strength, build and less sag. Other additives have different characteristic, if in doubt buy west systems and use their system to determine what you need. It is pricey but fairly cool proof. Also recommend using a catalyst without blush to avoid the washing between coats or applying finish.

Re: Resin
After being advised by BWY the construction (everything) is by ployester resin and after further discussion with my specialist advisor ( an aerospace composits engineer), I will be using the poly system for my current repairs.
Progress of the work will be posted.
The boatworkstoday youtube comparison poly vs epoxy is informative. Thanks.

Re: Resin
If your project is structural I would get a new ’specialist’, if it’s cosmetic or a new build that get mechanically fastened consider poly or vinyl.
