I was only giving suggestions and do not have a dodger as one is not needed here is SW Florida. What I do find needed is a vinyl windshield about 5ft in length and 12 inches in width tapered on both ends attached to bimini with a zipper and bottom on both bottom ends side attach a line to Railing.
This will protect helm person and any one aft from Spray in heavy beating to windward. Will keep my glasses clear.
It's easy to install, takes up little room.

I'm gonna toot my own horn here. Dodgers, biminis or spray shields are All Good
This one folds down over the cabintop & is still a bit of a work in progress, but has saved me during 2 seasons so far; Especially in conjunction with a bimini - as I don'tneed a tan
Well, I decided to build my own, I won’t necessarily save money because the BWY narrow dodger has a very good price, but based on my needs and existing hardware I want to make a few changes to the existing designs (plus wife offered to help). So the frame will be similar in size to the narrow BWY frame but adding removable side panels similar to the Dowsar dodger, it will also extend a little further back.
Here is my latest question to everyone with a dodger, does your dodger rub off when the boom is centered and oversheeted?
It seems that having a tight centered main sail only leaves 13 inches in height above the aft end of the hatch, but with a looser main it is closer to 15 inches.
We got the wide BWY dodger, so it would work with the full cockpit surround setup. The extra width is nice in terms of deflecting spray. At a rendezvous one time, I saw an X with the narrow dodger. The owner didn't like the amount of spray he was getting, so he sewed up some wings to it, which installed at right angles to the sides of the dodger. It looked good, and the owner said it helped a lot with spray. Regarding clearance with the boom, no problem with the BWY design, in any boom position. The bimini does rub against the back stay when being lowered or raised. We had to sew on a reinforcing patch where it frayed. I pointed this out to Ed, the guy who fabricates canvas for BWY, and he said he'd design reinforcement into X biminis in the future.
thanks Chinook. We are planning to add the sidepanels but avoiding right angles, kind of how it looks on the M. Our main problem with the wide BWY dodger is the existing hardware. It is just amazing how low the boom is in our boats.
I just ordered the small BWY dodger and door. The installation guide photos are multi-generation photocopies - does anyone have some nice pictures of where to place the hardware?
I have Made a spray Dodger myself. From Ali Tube and put it together as a fold down type for trailering. I have sides that clip on to form a enclosed cockpit and attach to my Bimini.
The sides come out as far as the side rails to give wind protection. On nice days we leave it down and I still can see over the top while under motor. The admiral can sill get forward by quickly taking the side skirts off. This has worked a treat as too a wide bimini can hinder climbing forward. http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/04042 ... sort=3&o=2
