Updated Factory Macgregor 26 Model?

Postby jschrade » Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:16 pm

In researching, it appears that the 26x was built for 7 years and then the 26m was introduced. The 26m has been produced for 7 years. Is it about time to see a new model offering modifications based on what was learned over the past 14 years of hybrid motorsailers?

Suggestions: Keep the 26m improved sailing/motoring capabilities with the 26x cockpit and cabin layout (with the 26m sliding galley).

Cheers!

I also wonder what will be the upgrades and or changes (if any) with MacGregor-Boats in the near future.

I like the "blue" color cushions in the "X" above the "brown" in the "M".

The "M" hull's exterior design is unbeatable.

Yes the brown cushions have got to go. I am designing some slip covers for them now.

Interesting, my wife and I like the plush look of the cushions in the 26M, the cushions in the 26X look like they were snatched from a caravan.

Wonder how much the Mac70 will go for, I might go out and buy some Lotto tickets myself.

Well, the 70 is sold. If Macgregor makes more, if, it will be about 900K in my opinion, the masts and booms are carbon fiber, keel stainless steel with lead bulb, those cost more than the old 70 would sell for. That is before the epoxy knit fiber hull and engine driven water balllast system.
As for next Macgregor, I'd give it another 7 years. The molds are still like new, they are just not wearing out like before, better waxes?? Better something?? I do trust Roger to come up with something by then but there is nothing on the drawing board now. I'd say stay tuned, but don't bother. I'll just look at electric car developement to amuse myself for about 5 years then bet the computer on Rogers desk will be full time into the night. Anyway, just wait awhile and ain't those aluminum trailers kool.
Ah! We just built some great fiberglass tire covers that look so good on out fire truck dolly. What about them for the 26M trailer, cheap and maybe just fit them; under the fender, over the tire.
One more thing, a fiberglass boom, the sail will fall into the boom and just be covered up. The boom is already working on the 70, head up into the wind and drop sail, cover, go home. Otherwise, there is nothing new comming for some time.

If I had an extra 900k lying around it wouldn't go to buy a Mac70. I'm sure it's nice, but not how I sail.

Does Roger have a computer? He should upgrade it to Windows 95, get Internet access and read this forum full of Mac owners and what they like/dislike about the boats. Oh yea, and move to Florida where he can build more than 1 boat a day.

Glenn...the plush appearance design of the M cushions are nice indeed...but that "M" cushion color is what a caravan leaves along the dusty roadways after it and a herd of camels slowly pass through. :D
I give the "M" a win-win on the cushion plush styling, but a loss-loss on that "color"

You know Im kiddin' ! Because beauty is within the eye of the beholder. I'm sure Roger selected that "brown" color through an array of professional opinions. (they just forgot to look at that stuff left behind caravans)

Nevertheless...we still have the best boat for the buck in the market today.
Fair winds !

I agree 1000%.

There is too much beige in the Mac. People pay big bucks to get a blue hull, they would pay to have some color in the cabin as well.
The cushion covers are practical. They are easily wiped down and such, but they are booooring and adds criticism and the "chlorox bottle" comments. At least the V-berth and Aft-berth have some color.

We have the beige cockpit cushions as well. Wow! do those get hot in the sun. We have to cover them with towels else risk serious burns.

It's a great little boat, but some color options would make it so much better.

I have no issues with the color. And yes they clean easily. I have the cockpit cushions to match the interior cushions. But they tend to "sweat" and get sticky when trying to sleep on them. I am going to try and talk my personal seamstress into making me some sort of cushion covers for both the cockpit and the interior.

I sleep in the cockpit or on the side berth in front of the galley (when pushed all the way to the rear). It will be better when it is colder and I can sleep in a sleeping bag.

Cheers,
Jim

Louis, I made no comment about colour, only style ..... in Australia, the majority of caravans have cushions with the same look (styling) as those in the X, we have seen people upgrade the cushion appearance in their caravans by recovering the cushions in leather (waste of money)

FYI: In Australia
that stuff left behind caravans
is called bulldust, it's finer than talc, gets into the tightest crack, makes a huge mess, I know it well, too well. Around the campfire of a night when caravaners congregate, the stuff that comes out is bull feces, it's extruded after a few beers.
