Pelican hook for cockpit lifelines.

I will not have access to my boat for another 6 weeks. I need to replace one of lifeline pelican hooks in cockpit. Does anyone know what size pelican hook comes with 2009M? It is an original pelican hook that came with my boat. I see a few different sizes on EBay for around $15.

I believe this is the one. The pic is from the BWY site, and it sells there for $28.50. They sell a rebuild kit for $8.50, by the way.

I can't quite read the size on the package, but BWY's price is pretty good as these things go.



I prefer this style ($39.00), as I can open and close it, even under tension, with one hand.

I bought new ones for the front of my lifelines so as I can easily disconnect them for when lowering the mast , got mine fro jamestown about 8-12$ cant remember but I could look up the inv. for the part # same size as the mac ones

Is there any reason you used the front instead of the back, at the cockpit? There's a good bit of slack to be achieved with just that short length from the vertical stantion to the termination, and the lifeline wouldn't be flopping about by nearly as much if disconnected at the cockpit.

I've been thinking about giving that a try instead of removing the spreaders, but the cost of pelican hooks makes it something I don't want to do twice.

How did you connect it to the lifeline itself? Was there already a stud swaged onto it, or did you do that yourself?

I bought toggles localy that screwed into the pelican hooks , if u click on the pic below u can then either zoom it or + it to a larger size to see them bettter here they are connected to my mast while in storage

Lol I noticed last night while anchoring that my less then two year old pelican hook fell apart. The pin is missing. I'm going to find another one but different hopefully better one. Re hooks at forward part of boat just lash the lifelines to the pulpit and untie or retie. I only undo those when stepping the mast. I use several passes of 1/4 inch line and some sailorly knot I don't know the name of right off.

I have quality pelican hooks on the lifelines on each side of the cockpit, and a cheaper version of pelican hooks on each side near the bow pulpit which only get disconnected occasionally. All of these hooks come in handy from time to time, and would recommend this setup.

You know, that's a good idea. I really like the Johnson style, with the little flippy thing to hold it closed, but they're much more money. I can use them on the cockpit lifelines, and use the cheapest ones I can find for the other two. I'll probably just try removing the forward lifelines without the pelican hooks this spring, just to see how hard it is to handle the mast with the lifelines slack. If it looks like it's easier to do than removing the spreaders every time, then I can invest in the cheap pelican hooks for them.

The cockpit lifelines have some cheap double-ended hardware store snap things (with the plunger and thumb slide) which seem to be used as the other half of the shroud adjuster that's permanently attached to the lifelines, which also means there's no way to tighten them at the same time. Gotta do something better, partly because they look like hull, all slack and ugly.

Pardon the mess, but this was a pre-purchase inspection. I keep it cleaner than that.

You have one of the best Dodger I have seen, I asume you have a visquen front windsheild that zipper at top and sides aand attches to companionway hatch.
Your Main sheet line must be unhooked to allow the cover from Bimini to dodger.
I use only the working jib. Does your Jib, center board,Main Halyard.furler lines lead aft inside the Dodger?
