Another silly question !

Post by sailor stan »

Still getting my first Macgregor 26X into shape and pulled the mast off the boat to replace the spreaders and tips. I was checking the wind direction gizmo trying to figure out how it works when i noticed that there is no cap on the top of the mast. Just an open tube. Is this right? Just seems that there should be a cap to keep rain and stuff from traversing the length of the mast onto the cabin rooftop. I would want a cap of sorts .....or something. just me. I checked BWY for a part like this but could not find a mast cap. Did the mast have a cap or some sort of termination when it was built and mine is just gone?

Thanks,
Stan

Stan, the :macx: mast doesn't have an end cap, just an open hole. It has never been a problem for me here the Pacific Northwest, I did have some swallows try to build a nest in it once though.

I too thought there should be a cap on the top of the mast
back when I first got my X. I assumed it had gotten lost. I
ran across mast caps for the X somewhere on the internet.
I can't remember where. But for $10 I ordered it and it fit
perfect. A couple of screws to secure it and its been there
for years. CG

Wise to cap off the top of mast, no telling how many Gulls have craped down that hole thinking it was a Outhouse. Causing short wiring to have a short life.
Best to protect your private parts regarding the inners of your pole/ stick.

My '96 X has a cap. I just assumed it was from the factory that way. Nothing special. Similar to the old model boom end cap.

But think of the sight to see of an Amazon balancing atop the mast to do so... :D

Stan: Dowser Marine Supplies has a Mast Cap custom made for the 26x. $9.99

Think I will get one for mine as well.

Hello,
My X came with a mast cap from the factory. Maybe Roger started leaving them off to save money........
